“Seriously?”
She could see that he was also about to burst out laughing.
“I didn’t say one word to her. Never even saw her up close.”
“See?” she grimaced.
“See what?”
“This is what it’s all about. Stories. Stupid gossip. So, if the same story is circling about Dorian, then it probably isn’t true. Just like it isn’t true for you. Don’t you agree?”
“I guess,” he shrugged his shoulders, almost pushing a book off of a shelf as he did so. “But, he still sounds like a dick.”
“Why?” she laughed. “Just because he’s popular and plays sports?”
Instead of a reply, Sebastian grunted, and she knew she had him. He had no reply to that.
“Listen, we can all just meet, have a coffee at the cafeteria.”
“Are you insane?”
“Why?”
“I’m not sitting with those guys so that everyone can see me.”
“Why on earth not?” She was having so much fun and her jaw almost hurt from all the smiling she was doing.
“I got a reputation to keep,” he grinned. “My kind and Dorian’s kind don’t mix. Not in public anyway.”
“But Frey’s okay?”
“He alone would be fine,” he nodded. “He’s on the border somewhere.”
“Seriously,” she giggled. “Okay then, what do you suggest?”
“We could all meet up in your dorm room, let’s say. Get a coffee from one of those horrible machines and drink that piss.”
“Charming, aren’t you?”
“I tell it like it is,” he kept grinning. “Then, I’ll tell you what I think. I have nothing against those guys, but for what you want to do, I have to feel much more strongly about them than just indifference.”
“Of course,” she nodded. “I’m sure you’ll see they’re good guys, once you talk to them. Like, really talk to them.”
“Okay. Just know I’m doing this mostly for you.”
“For me?”
“Well, of course,” he snorted. “Why else?”
“Thank you, it really means a lot.”
“The stuff I get myself into,” he slapped his forehead comically, and they both burst into laughter.
“Okay, now I think we’d better leave, before they throw our asses out the door,” she grabbed him by the hand and they rushed outside, leaving curious faces behind them.
Chapter 18
A few days later, Eva was standing in front of her locker, with Bella next to her. The day was over, but it wasn’t that late, so the girls were thinking what they could do for some fun.
