“Sorry, I didn’t mean to…” he started, but she didn’t let him finish.

“I gotta go,” she grabbed her backpack, and totally forgetting that she was in her panties, wearing just a towel over her upper body, she bolted through the door, letting it slam shut on its own.

Chapter 9

“He did what!?”

Bella was almost shouting the following morning, while Eva was recounting the events from the previous night. It was late when she returned home, and Bella was still out with Darlith, so the two could only exchange their stories after they had both woken up.

“He kissed me,” Eva repeated, with a shy smile on her face, still lying in bed, propped up by a big pillow.

“And you liked it, didn’t you?” Bella exclaimed victoriously. “I can see it in your eyes!”

“Oh, don’t be silly!”

Eva took the pillow and threw it across the room, right at Bella, hitting her on the head. It led to another bout of laughter, before it died down.

“Seriously now,” Bella continued, in a calmer, more serious tone of voice. “I spoke to Frey a few times. He seems kinda aloof, but he’s really smart. Like really. Plus, he’s not that bad on the eyes either.”

“You better watch what you say, girl,” Eva warned her, “you know how jealous werewolves get.”

“Oh, don’t get me started on that guy!” Bella fumed.

“Why?” Eva wondered. “What happened?”

“He brought me stupid flowers, that’s what happened.”

“I don’t get it,” Eva shook her head, with a puzzling look on her face. “Since when are flowers a bad thing?”

“It’s not the flowers,” Bella started explaining, “it’s the fact that I told him this isn’t anything serious, we’re just hooking up occasionally, so there’s no need for all that romantic, lovey-dovey stuff.”

“Lovey-dovey stuff?” Eva was laughing so hard that she was pressing her stomach.

“You know, the stuff people do when they’re in love. Yuck.”

Eva was still laughing.

“I know what you mean, but maybe he really likes you. Can you blame him?”

“I want him to listen to what I’m saying, and I said no presents, no flowers, no lovey-dovey stuff,” Bella sighed. “Oh well. I guess it isn’t that bad.”

“No, it’s not,” Eva assured her.

“What about you and Frey?” Bella raised her eyebrows.

“What about us?”

“Is there going to be part two of what happened last night?”

“I don’t know,” Eva replied, not having the slightest idea.

“You don’t like him or?”

“I do, but…”

Eva was reluctant to admit that the idea of settling for just one person never really worked for her. You can only get a part of what you need from someone. It rarely happens that someone can provide you with it all. That was at least Eva’s opinion, and it was a very unpopular one, so she often just opted against sharing it, because people tend to be narrow-minded and disrespectful of opinions which don’t agree with their own.

“I just have too much going on right now,” she offered the quickest and easiest solution to this she could find. “I can’t deal with a relationship and the drama it might bring.”
