Why were they all so concerned about this Beta?Yeah, he watched over Cambrie but his job for the moment was over while she was with us. I knew Marius wanted to hire him to stay on after this, but we needed time as a pack.
“He’s in the kitchen since he was bleeding everywhere,” I answered, jerking my thumb back the way I came.
“Cambrie thinks she’s alright, but Savo told me she’d hurt her knees a few days ago and if we are going to have a doctor stop by then I think he should look at them. Why don’t we all head to the kitchen,” he brushed a hand down Cambrie’s hair drawing her attention. “Are you hungry? Thirsty? We have plenty of food in the house, even some hot chocolate if I’m not mistaken.”
“Oh, hot chocolate sounds delicious,” she answered excitedly. “The house we were staying in was always so cold, something hot sounds nice.”
That was all Bodhi needed to hear before he took off for the kitchen to make our Omega what she desired. Unable to wait any longer, I walked up to my beautiful Little Star and scooped her up in my arms. With my face shoved in her hair I started to purr, unable to tell her just how much I missed her. Nuzzling until I found her ear, I steeled myself for the pain but I had to tell her, sheneededto hear it from my lips.
“I love you,” I forced out, cursing my broken voice. This woman, and a certain man, when it came time, deserved to hear those words but I wasn’t able to do that for them.
Cambrie pulled back and held my face between her small hands staring deep into my eyes. “I love you too, Oscar, so so much.”
Using one of my hands on her back I pushed her forward so I could kiss her tempting lips, relishing the taste of her. Even though it had only been four days, it felt like I’d been missing a part of myself, and now she was here, I was whole again. No more holding back, no more questioning if this was right or needing to follow the rules. This woman was ours, and I’d be damned if I ever let anyone take her from us again. She was the glue that turned our pack from a group of friends into a family. Without her, I wouldn’t know how Bodhi felt or have had the courage to take that step. Seeing how brave someone so small can be gave me the confidence I needed to take the leap and find even more happiness than I thought possible.
Releasing her lips, I started to kiss over every inch of her face, peppering her with love and affection until she giggled. God, her giggle could make me melt in the best way, I never wanted to go a day without hearing it.
“Come on, let’s head to the kitchen,” Rafael encouraged as Cambrie snuggled into my embrace, resting her head on my shoulder, content to stay right where she was.
Heading to the back of the house where the kitchen was, Spencer pulled out a chair for me to sit with Cambrie. He let his finger trail through her hair before he stood next to Nixon, wrapping an arm around his waist. Nixon looked down at Spencer with such a raw look of love I felt a little like I was intruding even seeing it.
Being a man who couldn’t speak left me large amounts of time to observe the people in my life. Something between them had changed, for the better, I believed. We all knew they loved each other, but there was an odd tension between Nixon and Marius when it came to Spencer. None of us saw it coming between them as friends or lovers but whatever happened earlier had broken down that wall, leaving behind love and trust at its finest.
“Where’s Marius?” Cambrie asked.
Nixon turned his attention to her as he answered. “He’s back in the city. Right now, he should be finishing up a press conference and we hope he can join us tomorrow.” Cambrie must have pouted at this as Nixon's lips twitched trying to hold back a smile. “We needed someone to keep Yoram from being able to stop us rescuing you, so Marius did what he needed to, and now you’re home with us.”
“But he’ll be here tomorrow?” she questioned.
“We hope so, but only if it’s safe to do so. None of us are going to give anyone a chance to steal you away again,” Spencer added.
Cambrie nodded, sitting up in my arms, and looked over Savo, who had his leg propped up on a chair and his head tossed back. He looked like he was sleeping if that was at all possible in such a position.
“Savo,” she called to him.
He cracked an eye and looked at her worried face. “I’m all right, my sweet girl, once Doc looks me over and I get some sleep, I’ll be just fine.”
“Why don’t I believe that? Your boss seemed to think it was worse than you were letting on,” Cambrie sassed back.
All of us were a little shocked at her response, only having caught glimpses of this side of our Omega. It seemed that Savo brought out the feisty side of Cambrie and it was nice to see.
“Sweetheart, don’t be rude, he saved your life after all,” Nixon warned with a chuckle, stepping out of Spencer’s hold to squat in front of me. “I realize I don’t know the friendship you two have built with each other, but typically that isn’t how wounded people should be reasoned with. Not to mention, men don’t like to admit when they’re hurt in front of a girl they like.”
Cambrie turned till she was sitting with her back to my chest so she could face the others better. I missed not being able to see her face as easily, watching all the expressions she made told me exactly what she was thinking, even if she didn’t say it.
“There’s something you all need to know but I don’t feel right saying it without Marius here,” she announced, then looked over at Rafael. “Do I wait?”
“No, Little One, this is not a matter that you should wait to tell them,” Rafael answered, making me worry about what she needed to tell us.
Giving my hand a squeeze, she slipped out of my lap and went to stand next to Savo. Instantly, he reached out and intertwined their fingers, letting his thumb brush over the back of her hand. “Let me,Keksík,I need to take responsibility for what happened and explain to your pack. There is a right and a wrong way to go about what I did, and under normal circumstances, I would be in the wrong.”
Everyone in the room seemed to tense, as if bracing themselves for something we weren’t sure we could handle. Cambrie had been through so much already, and our worst fear was even more awful things might have occurred while she was trapped in that house.
“First, I would like to say that I have the utmost respect for all of you and what you are doing for this country and especially Cambrie. This is going to take me a moment for me to explain so while I don’t deserve it, I would request you let me share everything before making your judgment on me. I’m an immigrant. I came here from Asturg many years ago, trying to escape my country and my father, General Rasvan,” Savo explained and paused a moment, letting us all absorb the bomb he’d just dropped in our laps, but he wasn’t done.
“He wanted me to be his right-hand man, to one day take his place leading the Northern Faction when he passed. I couldn’t do it, there was no way I could stand behind and fight for a country that killed both my mother and sister in the name of our people. Since the day I left my home I took dampeners to hide my status as an Alpha, choosing to live life as a Beta. I got hired by Rick for security and knew that wouldn’t be a life that would attract a pack or an Omega, leaving me to live my life. Then Cambrie appeared in my life out of nowhere, a chance meeting that showed me no matter how many pills I took I would never be a Beta. After I left your home, I didn’t think I’d ever see her again, but when the government told me I had a job to protect an important man’s daughter, I couldn’t refuse. Yoram knew who I was but notwhatI was, something that was his biggest mistake once he told me I’d be guarding Cambrie,” Savo continued.
Bodhi cut in, pushing off the wall of the kitchen, looking frustrated. “What does this have to do with anything? You made it sound like you did something to her, and I want to know what that is. I don’t give a shit about who you are or how you ended up in that house, so cut the crap and spit it out already.”
