He cleared his throat. “So, are you ready for bed?”
“Yes,” she said and yawned.
“Hop in while I shower, and I’ll be right out.”
It didn’t take him long to get ready for bed. After he brushed his teeth, he opened the door, and the first thing he saw was Caylee, on the bed, under the covers, watching for him. It made something in his chest tighten, and a feeling of possessiveness filled him.
Fuck, how was he going to keep his hands off her?
Chapter Five
The bathroom door opened, and there he stood, naked except for a pair of shorts. He looked bigger for some reason, sending a shiver of awareness down her spine.
He shut off the lights, slid into bed beside her, and turned toward her. Jesus, his chest was a work of art. His skin was tan, and he had a splattering of hair in the middle of his chest that she wanted to run her fingers through. His shoulders looked like they were a yard in width and his hands were humungous. She had the feeling, or maybe she was praying, that they would eventually give her a lot of pleasure.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked.
“You. I think you’re the most handsome man I’ve ever seen.”
“Oh, baby. I think you’re the most perfect woman for me.”
“Really?”
“Yes. Really. I don’t want to do anything that might mess us up. We’ve got a lot on our plates right now, so I’d like to take it slow.”
She nodded. “Can you hold me?”
“I would love to.”
He pulled her against his chest, turned her until her back was against him, wrapped an arm around her, and then kissed the back of her head. “Get some sleep, baby girl.”
She nodded and quickly fell asleep.
Caylee woke up the next morning with Nolan wrapped around her, and it felt like the most natural thing in the world, like they’d done it a hundred times before. A shiver raced down her spine when he started to move and make a growly sound before she felt him kiss the back of her head.
“Good morning, baby girl. How did you sleep?” Nolan asked. The deep, raspy morning tone of his voice made herstomach tighten with what she guessed was desire.
She decided to be honest with him. “When I’m with you, I get the best sleep I’ve ever had.”
He tightened his grip on her. “I’m very glad to hear that.”
She closed her eyes and relaxed back against him.
“I’ve got something I wanted to talk to you about,” he said.
She glanced over her shoulder. “What?”
“I’d like to go back to my condo. It’s a floor above Jonah. I—”
She felt her heart sink. “Oh, well, of course. It’s silly for you to be here if you have your own bed.”
He turned her until she was flat on her back, and he was over her. “You didn’t let me finish. I want you to come with me.”
“Wait, what?”
“I want you to move in with me. You can see Holly every day, but I want you with me in my bed every night.”
She was afraid to hope she was hearing him right. “You want me?”
