She grinned. “I know if one of them had been kidnapped, I would be doing that.”
They pulled around the circle drive until they stopped in front of the main door.
Jamison opened their door.
“Thank you,” she said.
“You’re welcome. Have a good evening.”
“You, too.”
Duncan lifted her hand and kissed her knuckles. “You are so damn sweet.”
She looked at him in confusion. “Why do you say that?”
“You’re polite and considerate to everyone.”
“Why shouldn’t I be?” she asked.
“I love that you do that. People in our world don’t often see the men and women around us who care for us daily.”
She nodded. “I saw how my father treated everyone and swore I wouldn’t be like him. It helped that my mother is like me. She taught me so much, and we weren’t even allowed to spend much time together.”
“He’s gone, so you don’t have to worry about himanymore.”
“I know.”
He opened the front door, and women immediately surrounded her. She hugged her sisters and then looked around for Beth to see her off to the side with a huge smile on her face.
“I’m missing my sister Beth. Don’t I get a hug from you?”
Tears filled the other woman’s eyes, but her smile widened. “Of course. I didn’t want to intrude on family time.”
Angelica hugged her tightly. “But you are family, too.”
“I’m so glad your home,” Beth said without commenting on Angelica’s comment, and she planned to ask her sisters about it.
“I’m going to take her up, ladies. As you can imagine, she’s very tired.”
Angelica took the hand Duncan held out to her.
“Of course,” Faith said. “We’ll see you in the morning.”
“Is the wedding still on for Friday?” Hope asked.
“Yes,” Duncan said. “If I could, I’d push it up to Thursday.”
Angelica gasped. “We hardly have any time now.”
“Fine. I’ll give you until Friday, but that’s it.”
Angelica waved to everyone as Duncan led her up the stairs to his bedroom.
She sighed when they closed the door behind them and locked it. Now, they were truly alone for the first time, and it felt heavenly.
Chapter Fourteen
Duncan started walking toward the bathroom as he unbuttoned his shirt. “I’m going to take a shower, Angel.”
