“Good.” He wrapped the shackle around her wrist and chuckled. “I’m glad I got the shackle that adjusts, or you would have slipped right out of the other.”
Angelica pressed her lips together to prevent the smart-aleck remark. She flinched when the band closed over her wrist and clicked shut. He next put a little lock on it and then put thekey into his pants pocket.
“I’ll be back,” he said, leaning forward to kiss her.
She turned her head so his lips landed on her cheek instead of her mouth.
“You better get used to the idea of me touching you because I’m going to be doing it a lot. Starting tonight.”
She kept her head turned away from him and didn’t relax until the door to the cabin shut. Her heart sank when she heard another lock shut right outside the door.
Now she had three obstacles to get through—Kenneth, her chain, and a lock. Maybe four if there really were wild predators in the area.
She looked around frantically because she didn’t know how much time she’d have before he got back. The chain let her walk around the room and go into the bathroom, but she could not reach the things on the counter in the makeshift kitchen.
A sob tore from her mouth when she thought of her family and Duncan. God, there was a chance Kenneth could get away with this. It made her want to scream, but she was afraid if she started, she wouldn’t be able to stop.
Chapter Ten
“We lost her on Vine Street,” Alastair said.
“What’s after that?” Duncan asked.
“It turns into farmland and miles of forest.”
“Fuck, if he took her there, she’ll be next to impossible to find.” God, his stomach tightened when his mind turned to what the bastard was doing to her at that moment, and when he found them, the guy was going to pay dearly.
“No, it’s not. The vehicle he’s driving is a new model, so it has GPS. I’ve got a guy getting the vehicle information we need to track it down,” Alastair said.
Oh, fuck yeah. “We’ll head that way.”
“I sent the coordinates as soon as we get them. I’m also sending a dozen guys. They’ll catch up to you.”
“Thank you.”
Duncan explained the situation to Jamison.
“We’ll find her, sir.”
Duncan nodded. He wouldn’t stop until he found her. It was the thoughts of the abuse she was getting that was slowly driving him crazy.
They were in the country with the forest a mile in front of them. “Pull over here until I hear from my brother.”
He looked out his side mirror to see a few cars headed their way and knew they were theirs. They must have broken several laws to get there so fast. His attention went to his phone when it rang.
“Okay, give Jamison these coordinates,” Alastair said.
“I’ll put you on speaker.” Duncan listened, but his mind wasn’t on it because he couldn’t fight the overwhelming anger that had started to build when he first found her gone. That motherfucker really thought I’d let him take my woman.
He’d pay dearly.
“I’ve got them, sir,” Jamison said.
“Then let’s go.”
He didn’t have to look to know the other men were following them.
Duncan looked around when Jamison came to a stop.
