“I was touching him, and his eyes held this, like, challenge. I don’t know. It was like the air between us was charged with electricity. Like nothing was going to come between us or stop us.”
Her nose wrinkled. “You weren’t worried Jake would show up?”
“It was Ryan’s late night. They take those nights off because it’s so rare. He’d only come if Ryan called him in.”
She smiled. “And there was no way that was happening.”
I couldn’t remember exactly how it happened, but then his lips were on mine with his arm around my waist like he was worried about me backing away. There was no chance of that happening.
“You have to give me more.”
“We kissed. It was hot. I kind of jumped into his arms, and he led me to the couch in the waiting room.”
Her face screwed up. “So, like, never sit on that couch again.”
I rolled my eyes. “He wiped it down, but yeah, we christened it all right.”
She raised a brow. “Did you…”
I shook my head. “Just oral.”
“And it was…” She waved her hand in ago ongesture.
I didn’t want to give details. It seemed like a betrayal to what I’d shared with Ryan, but I could sing his praises. I was positive he wouldn’t mind that. “Amazing.”
I’d never felt so confident with anyone else. I would never have initiated a blow job, but it felt right, and he made me feel so beautiful.
“He didn’t want more?”
“He came home with me. But I was exhausted, and he didn’t push for it.” It was almost as if neither of us wanted to take it further. Not because we didn’t want to, but we had no problem waiting. At least, that was how I felt. I couldn’t be positive about his motives.
What if he decided he couldn’t handle Jake’s reaction, and I never got another chance to be with him? I should have gone all-in last night.
Brooke’s eyes widened. “How did you leave it?”
I thought back to breakfast. “He said he liked it.”
“He liked it.” Her voice fell flat.
“I kept waiting for him to say it was a mistake. That we were crazy for making a move. That he regretted it.”
“But he didn’t.”
“Maybe I’m an idiot, but it felt like he’d left it open for more.” I’d looked into his eyes, and he seemed happy and hopeful. That wasn’t a guy who’d regretted anything.
She gave me a concerned look. “I hope you know what you’re doing. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
I scrunched my nose at the thought. “I’m more worried about Jake finding out.”
“When are you seeing him again?”
“Nana wants me to go through more boxes this weekend. The guys will be there.”
Her brows lifted as if she just remembered something. “Remi’s planning a barbecue at her place in the evening. You should come.”
“We’ll see.” It might be the distraction I needed after being at Nana’s, or maybe I’d want time to myself. I wasn’t sure.
Needing to change the subject, I asked, “Any update on the other coffee shop?”
