“Yep.” She quickly walks to the front counter, and pulls her purse out from the bottom drawer.
I hold the door open for her, and lock up as soon as she’s through it. “Let me walk you to your car.”
“I’m perfectly capable of getting to my vehicle,” she snaps back.
She’s not telling me something I don’t know. At the same time… I notice how she only leaves when she can walk out with Bianca and Charleigh. She’s cautious, and I don’t want her to lose that sense of security. Even if she’s being obstinate. “I know that. It would make me feel better.”
“Fine,” she huffs. Our cars are parked on the other side of the building. Parking this close is almost unheard of, but Corey pays for our spots so we don’t have far to go. “Well, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” Her keys are in her hand and she presses the fob to unlock the car. Her face is partially hidden behind her hair, but I can see the relief flash through them at not having to walk alone.
“Yeah, I’ll see you tomorrow.” She closes the door, reverses out of her spot, and then drives away.
I don’t stop watching until her car is out of eyesight. Even though she’s trying to put on a tough facade, I can see she’s scared of something. I just wish I knew what it was. “Not my problem,” I mutter to myself. Instead of getting in my car, I walk across the street to the bar. The need to drown out my thoughts is overwhelming.
