“Get off!” She squirmed and bucked, but it was no good. She was well and truly trapped by a Mamba, and it felt every bit as deadly as if it were a snake.

“Keep still, bitch,” a deep voice snarled beside her ear. He dragged her closer, huffing the breath from her lungs.

“Let her go. She has nothing to do with this,” Carter shouted, raising his gun in Leah’s direction. “Now!”

She hoped to hell he wouldn’t shoot.

She whimpered and tried to peel away the arms holding her. It was no use. She was well and truly trapped.

“Special one, is she, Carter?” Baz said with a hint of amusement. “Perhaps we’ll take her as down payment. What do you think?” He laughed and looked around at his club brothers. “Want her?”

“I’d stick one in her,” a biker to his right said.

“Yeah, me too, pussy and ass.”

Terror ran hotly through Leah’s veins. These men were disgusting.

“You’ll fucking pay for this,” Carter snapped. “Let her go.”

“I’d do as he says.” Hudson appeared, also holding a Glock. His was pointing at Baz. “And that includes getting off our turf.”

“Ah, the big boss.” Baz turned to Hudson. “Perhaps I’ll get somewhere now. Where’s my cash?”

“I’m sure Carter told you. It’s not in yet. Got another few days for it to pull off.”

“That wasn’t the fucking deal.” Baz pulled out a gun. Three being waved about was obviously one too many. “We want what’s our cut now, asshole.” He pointed the business end of his weapon at Hudson.

“You really want to do this?” Hudson said as several more club brothers stepped up behind him, all carrying. “It’ll get ugly.”

“It’s already ugly,” Carter said. “Let her go.”

“No, she’s coming with us. You can have her back when you pay up. Pretty piece of ass like this gotta be worth two hundred grand.”

“Carter,” Leah yelled. “Please. No.” Fear nipped her skin, her belly a tight knot. He couldn’t let them take her. She’d never get over their evil intentions.

Carter kind of growled.

And then she became aware of a siren, loud and wailing. Within a few seconds, it was getting louder, giving away the fact it was heading in their direction.

“Fuck, you got nosy damn neighbors or something?” Baz snapped. He was waving his gun around wildly as if looking for whoever had called the cops.

Leah thought she might be sick, partly from the sight of the gun, but also with relief that the cops were on the way.

“So take off,” Hudson said. “You’ll get what you’re due when we have it.”

“Yeah, we will,” the guy holding Leah said. “Or we’ll be coming for this bitch and more.” Suddenly, he pushed her away.

She stumbled forward and dragged in a deep breath. Her chest hurt from where he’d held her so tightly.

Carter, like a lion springing into action, lunged at her captor. He flew past Leah, rage contorting his face and a howl of fury bursting from his mouth.

She screamed and stepped to the side.

The two men hit the ground in a sprawl of limbs. Carter was throwing punches, and he took one to the chin too.

Another two Mambas joined in. Three on one.

“Carter!” she yelled.
