“Why are you crying?” Lukas asks, alarmed.
“They’re all so nice! Your family— They’re all so thoughtful and they keep doing more than I could ever expect or hope and then I feel bad for being surprised because of course they’re amazing—”
Lukas laughs, catching my chin in his hand and kissing me tenderly.
“They’re going above and beyond because they adore you. You inspire kindness because that’s what you put out into the world.” He wipes the tears from my cheeks, pressing kisses to my skin in their place. “It’s one of the things I love most about you.”
“Sorry, I’m just emotional. This day has been crazy,” I say.
“It’s ok. Tomorrow will be better,” he promises, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and holding me carefully. He presses a kiss to the top of my head. “Come on. Dinner. Bed. Sleep.”
As long as I’m with him, that all sounds perfect.
