There are a dozen different styles, all in navy blue.
“Um… They’re all pretty,” I tell her.
“Lilah likes this one,” Olive says, pointing to an off-the-shoulder knee-length gown with a floaty looking skirt and an empire waist. “And that should still fit perfectly in fall,” she adds slyly.
Lilah gives her a look that would turn most people to stone.
“Please, you’re not fooling anyone with your seltzer,” Olive laughs.
I press my lips together to hide a grin and look at the ceiling. “I have no idea what she’s talking about. I hadn’t noticed a single thing…”
“Moving on,” Lilah says, pointedly looking at the binder again.
Olive rolls her eyes at her sister, but her smile is huge when she points to a soft, gauzy looking dress with a sweetheart neckline. “I think this one would look perfect on you,” she says.
My stomach drops, closely followed by my heart and lungs. “But those are bridesmaid dresses,” I say quietly.
“Yes, they are, Parker,” Olive says with deliberate and sarcastic slowness. “And I want you to be one of the bridesmaids. Obviously.” She shakes her head, looking at me like I’m crazy for not assuming she’d want me in her wedding.
I’m the worst. The actual worst. I slept with her brother like six hours ago and then ran out on him. And I can’t tell her. I can’t tell any of them, but I can’t keep this secret either. I swear, I thought I was all cried out before I left home this morning, but tears are pricking at the corners of my eyes again. I have to pretend like my night with Lukas never happened. I can do this. I can.
I swallow the lump in my throat and force a watery smile. “Are you sure? That’s huge…”
“I’m sure!” Olive pulls me in for a tight hug. I hug her back, but I feel like an absolute rat.
