Skid kissed his boy and told him to stay with me. As Owl emerged from the X-ray room, Dusty came up the stairs with the scary Skull.

I looked at my boyfriend with anticipation, but he glared at me as he walked by me without a word. The three men followed him into a room down the hall.

CHAPTER 35

Dusty

What the fuck was she doing up here?I fell into the chair at the head of my table, dragging a long breath from my cigarette. The brothers took their places, and I fought the urge to smash Skid’s face for talking to my ol’lady without permission.

His jaws were tight, and he wasn’t looking me in the face. The fucker was hiding something. After the meeting, I’d rip his tongue out of his throat to know what the fuck was going on.

“Someone is lacing our powder,” I started. “There’s been an OD. The stuff came from one of ours.”

“No runner of ours would dare mess with the dope. The Lanzas’ dope,” Skid said.

Owl’s eyes grew serious at me. “Unless they were promised something big in return.”

“Exactly.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “Big enough not to make them snitch even under Big Gun’s knife.”

Skip rubbed his face. “Beth doesn’t have the power or the money to pull any of that shit. And why the fuck would she mess with our business and the fucking Mob?”

“She must have found a new home,” I said.

“She fell on Wrench’s lap already?” Owl’s nose crinkled like he’d smelled a fart.

“There’s no news from Detroit. No sign of Beth whatsoever there,” Skid insisted. “Even the drivers we gutted the other day confirmed she didn’t spend more than thirty minutes with Wrench.”

“He is the one fucker who wants this chapter the most. He’s been looking for a way to expand to the West coast for years. It makes sense if he’s the one messing with our shit to take over,” Owl explained. “And thirty minutes…with Beth’s—”

I was about to grab his neck—it was still my fucking mother’s pussy he was talking about—when Cameron barged in.

“What the fuck you think you’re doing here?!” I snapped.

As if I said nothing, she closed the door and took a seat across the table.

“What the—” I bit my lower lip, my upper one curling in a snarl. “Cameron, would you for fuck’s sake get the hell out of here, please?”

Snickers twitched the guys’ mouths as they all looked down. They wouldn’t look at her in front of me but behind my back…These motherfuckers.

“How polite of you to say please,Prez,” she mocked.

I banged my fist on the table. “What the fuck do you want right now?”

“I came to collect my patch.”

“What fucking patch?” I knew exactly whatfucking patch.

All eyes were on me now, asking the same question.

“The VP patch. You said you’d announce it to the brothers at your next meeting? Have you announced it yet or were you saving it for the end?” she challenged.

Big Gun narrowed his eyes at me. “You’re making your old lady your VP?”

Owl shook his head. “No way, Prez.”

The only man who wasn’t grumbling was Skid.

Wildfire blazed under my skin. I was angry for so many fucking reasons not one. First, Cameron was twisting my arm in front of my men. Second, my men were arguing with something I said I’d do. I didn’t like the idea of giving her that patch, and after what she did last night, I decided to back out on our deal. But that was my place, not theirs. No one would’ve dared argue with Roar in fear of getting their heads blown off.
