Sabine’s mouth twisted to the side as she attempted to hide her amusement. “Yeah,” she replied slowly. “But he had to be a knight first, right?”

“Right.”

“And I’m supposed to believe he just, what? Went full retired Boomer on Tatooine and let all those skills go?”

Leslie chuckled as Max rolled his eyes dramatically.

“Also,” Sabine dipped her head to emphasize her next point. “Seeing Ewan McGregor on screen had an effect on my heart and body that I can’t just ignore.”

“Wait! No! That’s not part of this!” Max sputtered. “You can’t measure how good of an Obi-Wan he is based on howcrushableyou find him.”

Sabine shrugged like she didn’t care. “And I may not have agreed with all of the changes George Lucas made to the original trilogy, but if he wanted to digitally erase Alec Guinness and replace him with Ewan, I wouldn’t be mad about it.”

Max gasped, personally affronted at the suggestion.

Leslie was loving it, since he’d been Team Ewan from the beginning. Max turned wide, panicked eyes to Dave. “She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

Dave had gone back and forth over the years. He loved all the renditions of Obi-Wan, truth be told. They were all winners in his book.

He sent a sly look to Sabine who happened to be looking at him at the same time. There was a definite tease in her eyes that sent a thrill through him.

She grinned widely at Max. “You’re telling me that you can watch Ewan McGregor wield a lightsaber andnotbe completely ready to ruin your life for that man?”

“Exactly!” Leslie declared, pointing at Max. “That’s what I’ve been saying this entire time. The fighting skills alone—”

Max and Leslie began arguing with one another in earnest. Sabine smiled and pulled her order tablet from her apron.

She skirted around the table and sat down beside Dave.

“Would you like to order anything else? The pizza is good. We even have a gluten free crust that I’ve been told is just as good as the real thing.”

“Haven’t you tried it?”

“I have. I just can’t tell the difference. Kara swears by it. Says that it’s the sole reason she keeps working here.”

So her best friend was like Max. Happy coincidence that was. Winning Max over was pretty easy if you went out of your way to make sure he didn’t get sick.

“Yeah, a couple of those then. Just pepperoni and something veggie.”

She tapped the order into her tablet, and he took a second to look at her up close.

Her dirty blonde hair was pulled back into a messy and complicated braid. She had a short nose, flat chin, full lips, and dark eyebrows that made him think the blonde wasn’t natural. Not that he cared. He had a feeling she could do whatever she wanted with her hair and still be beautiful.

Yes, he thought she was beautiful.

Don’t everyone freak out about it.

Acknowledging her beauty seemed a given.

Like when people pointed out his face tattoos. Yeah, they were there. Vocalizing it didn’t make you more perceptive than the rest of the world.

When she was finished, she looked up at him and smiled. She had a deep dimple on one cheek that did something to his chest. It tingled, like static electricity, but only in the area directly above his sternum.

Had that always happened with dimples or was it new?

“Anything else?” she asked.

“Why wouldn’t you look at me?”
