She didn’t bother arguing and seated herself on the edge of the bed. She crossed her arms and her legs before she looked at him, ready to answer the questions.

“Why were you at that location where the body was found?”

She shrugged. “I went there to get away from people. I wasn’t in that exact area where the body was found. I only went there because I heard someone scream.”

“At what time?”

“A little past three, I think. I don’t remember; my class ran a little late that day.” She was trying to organize her thoughts as she answered. What should she say, what shouldn’t she say. One thing was for sure, she would not mention that she had a wolf chasing her because he would laugh at her like the police did. She wasn’t sure she could take this hot man who’d some how found her heart laughing at her.

“What did the attackers look like?”

She shrugged once more. “I don’t remember what they looked like. I can tell you what transpired.”

“Do,” he said, waiting.

Augusta described the incident to the best of her ability, not wanting to lie. She didn’t think she could even if she tried. He had that look in his eyes that made her feel like he could see into her soul and could tell when she wasn’t being truthful.

“Were there any weapons?”

“They were using crowbars.”

“Any other weapons?” he said, looking bored again.

“Like guns?”

“Yeah.”

“Not that I saw. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t any. I only saw the end of it, and I was too afraid to stick around. I …” She stopped herself. She could tell him she had a photo, but it was destroyed, so what good would that do?

“I … what?” he asked, looking at her with narrowed eyes. “You were saying you were too afraid to stick around, so you what?”

“I ran,” she said. “I ran, so I honestly don’t remember much. Everything went by so quickly. I went to the police station, and that’s it.”

“Do you remember their faces?”

“They had on ski masks, so I didn’t see their faces at all.”

He sighed, almost irritated. “Any idea what they were saying? Could you hear them at all?”

She shook her head. “No, I found them because I heard someone scream. I figured maybe someone was hurt. I didn’t expect to see someone getting murdered.”

“Did you get away without them noticing you?”

“No.” She shook her head. “They heard me.” Which wasn’t a lie. “And they ran after me.”

He sighed. She wondered if he believed her or not.

“I’m going to need to check up on everything you said and make sure everything comes back clean before you’re good to go.”

Augusta tilted her head, looking at him, confused. “What does that mean?”

“It means you’re coming with me, so whatever you have that you need, grab.”

Augusta snorted, shaking her head. “That’s funny.”

“I’m serious,” he said. “You honestly think I’m going to just believe what you said because you say it’s true?”

As afraid as she was that he would hurt her, she definitely wasn’t going to give him a chance. Pleading and running weren’t getting her anywhere, so she decided on defiance instead.
