I look up to the sky and say a silent prayer.Lord help us.

“Well that was a bust,” I say plopping onto the couch in our dorm. Sassy pops into her room for a minute, before coming back out in her PJs, with a bottle of liquor in her hand. I give her a look, raising my brows.
“You do know it's like two in the afternoon, right?”
She shrugs and takes a seat next to me, handing me the bottle. “It’s a weekend, and we have no classes. I say we celebrate and have a drink.”
My phone rings and I pull it from my pocket. Connor’s grinning face greets me and I smile.
“I know that face. Is it the boyfriend?” I shake my head no, then answer it.
“Hey you.”
“Hey.” he says in his soft, gruff voice.“How are you? It’s been a few days since we’ve talked. Did you make it to school okay?” I stand from the couch and give Sassy a smile, walking to my bedroom. I gently shut the door with a soft click, then sit on my bed.
“Yeah. It’s been good. I got in yesterday. Not too much to disclose yet. Except it’s hot here. I thought Kansas had hot summers.” I giggle and he chuckles.
“I can imagine,” he says, before getting interrupted.
“Hey is that Cara?”Xavier yells from the background. There’s a tussle and some grunting before I hear him clearer.“Hey college girl. How’s Texas?”I roll my eyes. It’s hard to believe we just recently became friends. “How about you put me on speaker, and I can chat with both of you, so I’m not repeating myself?”
“Smart.” He huffs. “Okay, babe, you’re on speaker.”
“College is good. I have an amazing dorm, and my roommate is a badass. I think I found my first friend.”
“Damn straight. You’re stuck with me girl,” I hear shouted from the other room. “Note to self: These walls are thin.” The guys laugh. Whoops, did I say that aloud?
“That’s great Cara. Have you met your sisters yet?” Connor asks.
I sigh and lean back against the wall. “Not yet. I tried but no one was at the house. Maybe tomorrow.”
“Bummer, babe.” Xavier says then groans. “Why did you just hit me?” He huffs.
“Don’t call her babe.”
I smile and bite my lip. “So what about all of you? Any big plans this week? How’s training going?” I can’t remember what school they’re at, but I know they started football camp this week.
“It’s good. Team seems laidback and cool. It’s different not being the quarterback anymore, but I’m learning,” Connor says, and Xav laughs.
“Turning that six pack to an eight pack every day.”
I can’t help the snort from escaping, and I roll my eyes.Typical guy.
We talk for a bit longer, but the need to pee is too strong, and we’re not at that point in our relationship that I would ever go when on the phone with them.
“Hey guys, it was great catching up, but I have to go. Are you still coming to Texas in a few weeks?” They had mentioned a game out this way, so maybe they’d swing by.
The guys get really quiet, and I check my phone to see if we have been cut off. It says we are still connected.
“Um, guys? Did I lose you?” I ask and then something clicks. Huh? I guess I lost them. Odd.I really have to pee.I jump up from the bed and pause. Crap I have to text that girl. I grab my bag and start to dig, while doing the potty dance. I find the number and toss it on the bed before rushing from the room. I make it to the bathroom just in time. That was close, what a first impression that would be.It’s crazy, but I just met Sassy this morning. Even if it feels like I’ve known her all my life. I finish in the bathroom, then walk back to my door.
“Hey are you ready?” Sassy asks.
“Give me another five. I have to text that girl.” She nods and watches as I run into my room.
