Page 6 of Fangs and Forever

I’m horrible with a spike. I’m not strong enough to use it, but I’d taken to the bow rather quickly. It was almost second nature. I’m even better than Ian, and he’s the one who taught me. Now it’s me that often gives him tips on how to use it.

I toss everything into my bag before I snag the keys and my phone. I hop into one of the cars. Before I can think better of it, I’m on the highway and heading back toward Vincent’s house. It’s the last place I should be going, but something is pulling me there. I can’t stop thinking about him.

He’s all I dreamt about while I slept. The dreams were erotic. I squeeze my thighs together thinking about the way his piercing blue eyes had watched me and how he had encouraged me to come for him. I’d been so worked up that I’d awoken with my hand in my panties. That’s never happened before. I might have to start sleeping in my bedroom. How embarrassing would that have been if Ian had caught me touching myself in my sleep? Or worse, heard me moaning Vincent’s name.

I slow down when I draw closer to his home. I check my watch to see how much sunlight I have left. I should be more than okay. I’ve got hours of daylight. I park a few blocks away, deciding it will be better if I go on foot. I pull my hoodie off so I’m only in a sports bra and yoga pants. Anyone that sees me will most likely think I’m working out. I leave my bag, worried that it might draw attention.

Besides, I'll stay in the sun. I’m not here to kill him. I’m only checking things out. When the sun goes down, I’ll slip back to my car and watch things. I could follow him to see what he gets up to. Maybe I’ll catch him in the act and then I’ll…. My thoughts trail off as I try to picture killing him. Instead, all I see is him kissing me. The hell is wrong with me? I’m on a mission here to bring a killer to justice. I need to focus.

I pull my hair up and start to jog down the sidewalk. Yesterday’s infusion has given me a spring in my step, but it won’t last long. Might as well make the most of it.

Glancing around, I don’t notice anyone out. The street is actually really quiet. I turn into his driveway and admire the stone. This house really is beautiful. No wonder the sexy vamp killed the previous owner to get his hands on it.

I follow the driveway around to the back of the house and try to steal peeks in the windows as I go, but it’s all locked up tight. Of course it is, dummy. He’s a vampire. He can’t have the sun peeking in through the windows.

Slowly I creep onto the back porch to check the door. Stop, I tell myself as I reach for the handle. But I don’t. Something else pulls me forward. I swear it’s as if I have no control over my body.

“Who are you?” A voice sounds from behind me. I scream, turning around to see the older woman from next door standing there with a dish in her hand. Where the hell did she come from? Did I zone out again? I thought I was feeling fine.

“I’m ah.. I was ah…” I can’t string my words together to save my life.

“Did you forget your key, sweetheart?” I scream again, spinning back to the now open door. I trip over my own feet and start to fall toward Vincent. His arm shoots out, and he catches me easily, then pulls me into his house. Not unlike a spider catching a meal in his web.

“Oh.” The older lady’s lips purse. “Well, I'll just leave this casserole for you then.” She walks over, holding it out.

“Take the dish,” Vincent whispers next to my ear. I lift my hands, taking it from the old lady.

“Thank you, Mrs. Brewster. If you don’t mind, Everly and I have plans.” I debate asking for help, but that could get this poor lady killed, so I keep my mouth shut.

“You kids have fun.”

Vincent closes the door as the older lady peeps past him into the house.

“You came.” He takes the dish from my hand and puts it down on a table next to the door.

“Had to make sure you’re not going to kill anyone else.” I tilt my chin up, pretending to not be scared of him. I’m not actually sure that I am afraid of him, which confuses me because I should be.

“I haven't killed anyone.”

I lift my brows, clearly not believing him.

“Lately.” He smirks. Lifting his hand, he drags his finger down my jaw. I lean into his touch, wanting more.
