Daphne’s cheeks have turned bubblegum pink, but she nods and confirms, “Sounds good.”
Xander wraps his arm around Scarlett and steers her to his Escalade, his hand groping her ass through her skirt the whole way.
Their kind of love—something pure and strong—is something I hadn’t realized (until this very moment) I wanted so badly with Daphne.
“Okay.” Daphne blows out a harsh breath, pulling her eyes away from them. “We should get going. I’ve got a mountain of calculus to do before they come over.” Her eyes drift back to Xander and Scarlett where she’s playfully trying to swat his hand away from her backside.
“Daph?”
“Hmm.”
“What are you thinking?”
“I—” She swallows, closing her eyes. “I was wondering if we’d get to that point. Where we can do stuff like we just did … or where you grab my ass in the hallway and not have someone looking at us like they’re going to murder us in our sleep.” She clenches her teeth together.
And in my head, I wonder how long Alora will continue to make us miserable. Watching our every move. Behaving like a grade A bitch. And probably plotting our demise. I huff out a breath. “We’re going to have to ignore her and hope for the best.”
Daphne nods as I help her into the passenger seat. I climb in on the driver’s side, ready to get the hell out of here. Buckling my seat belt, I glance at Daphne again and, seeing her unease, I reach out my hand.
She laces her fingers with mine and exhales slowly through pursed lips. “What if she decides to use that video of us fooling around?”
“I don’t know how to stop her if she wants to be a bitch. But, Daph, I don’t want to hide what I feel for you anymore. It’s so damn hard. On both of us.”
She turns her head, her lips curving into a smile. “And just what do you feel, Micah?”
“Something I promise you I’ve never felt with anyone else.” I pull her hand across the console to kiss her knuckles. “And I’m hoping you might feel the same.”
