All the faces at the table showed equal eagerness, and the girls’ eyes lit up in pleading.
“Yes, yes!” I said, plastering a forced, pleasant smile onto my face. “All of you are welcome.”
Then I thought of something and pulled out the envelope Axel had put in my pocket. I shoved it into Jasper’s hand.
“If there’re any invitations inside, you distribute them,” I said.
I grabbed Yelena’s and Nat’s arms from either side of me.
Teleport!I commanded.
My magic didn’t disappoint. Yelena screamed bloody murder, and Nat yelled. “Holy shit!” as we vanished from the Hall of the Bridgewater.
CHAPTER 15

The night was as thickas ink. Iridescent lights blazed from the demigods’ splendid apartment building, making the half-moon seem pale in comparison.
Sprinkles of rain and snowflakes adorned the night sky. Paxton had made them. He was putting in an effort to make Axel’s party grander.
I shrugged as I expelled him from my mind. I wouldn’t let the thought of him ruin the first party of my life.
After I had a few drinks and a little fun tonight, I’d have to feed from both Axel and Héctor.
My blood raced, and my heart rejoiced.
I jogged toward the entrance of the building with Yelena and Nat. They were just as thrilled as I was.
Nat had donned a dress shirt and fancy pants. Yelena wore a mermaid gown that draped to the ground. She looked lovely. I had on a one-shouldered gown with splits up both thighs. The pale green color brought out the green in my eyes.
The gown was a present from Héctor. The dude took the notion of providing for me seriously. In each of his dwelling places were a whole wardrobe and other necessities for me, just in case I spent the night.
Pink flew to my cheeks at the wanton thought of truly spending a night with him, tangling with him between the sheets, and waking up in the morning with my head resting on his bare chest.
Metal music and refined laughter poured out of the demigods’ apartments, shattering part of my fantasy and jerking me back to the full-swing party ahead.
“Didn’t the invitation say that the party would start at nine p.m.?” I asked.
“What did you expect, Marigold?” Nat asked. “This is a demigod’s party, so everyone fought to get here early. And you had to insist on being half an hour late to play it cool, despite Yelena and I begging you over and over to get ready and leave for the party.”
I waved a hand and hid my regret. “Well, we’re here. There’ll be enough drinks for us—Axel promised. He’ll look really bad if they’re short of drinks, and he knows that. He’s the vainest among all the demigods, next to Pigston.”
