“Good.” She began to move to the music herself, holding his gaze.
“Can I ask a question?” he shouted over the noise.
She nodded.
“Was that Shaggy?”
A thick lump filled her throat. “That was Shaggy.”
He considered the answer for a heartbeat. “And he hurt you at some point?”
“He did.”
“Fair enough.” He continued to dance. “Remind me never to hurt you.”
She smiled. God, he was easy to like. “Okay.”
The music thumped out its wild, thrashing beat.
Any second now, it’s gonna change to a slow dance, and everyone will partner up, and we’ll be forced to press out bodies together, like in all those corny prom scenes in movies.
Bria prepared herself. If shehadto press her body to Owen’s, she could handle that. The soft-toy stingray would keep her libido tempered somewhat, surely?
The music didn’t change.
But, holy crap, Owen did.
Before her eyes, his self-conscious, self-mocking, awkward shuffling slowly morphed into insanely sexy moves that told her there and then that he’d totally been conning her.
And that he’d be fucking incredible in bed.
“Youcandance,” she accused, whacking the back of her hand to the stingray.
Mischief and a certain level of triumph glinted in his eyes at her realization, and he snagged her wrist with gentle pressure, drawing her to his body. Her heartbeat tripled, and she looked up at him as he brought his lips down to her ear. “If I tell you I paid my way through my degree working as a stripper, would you believe me? Or be offended?”
Oh baby.
He pulled away a little, loosening his fingers on her wrist, a question in eyes.
For an answer, she snaked her arms around his neck and kissed him.
It was, in all practicality, the only answer she could give.
