“I’m staying here?” She asks seriously.
“What? No! You’re coming with us. They are very excited to meet you.”
“Who are they?”
I smile, “Xander, you may remember him. He was your doctor when you had that nasty infection. He did your surgery.”
She nods, “Dr. Kane.”
“That’s right, but you can call him Xander now. And his wife Isabella will be there. She’s wonderful. You’ll love her. Liam’s sister, Elle will be there. You’ve met her too once I think. And Max, her friend.”
“No kids?” She asks with a disappointed expression.
I shake my head, “No. Just you. We are the only ones lucky enough to have kids.”
She smiles, “Do you remember you told me about adopting?”
I nod.
“I want you to do that.”
“Ivy, there is nothing we want more. The plan is to try to adopt you. But it’s not just up to us. We won’t know for a long time probably.”
She smiles, “Okay.”
“Can I go play in my room?”
“Of course, honey.”
She runs off to her room.
Eighteen
LIAM
I spentthe afternoon in my office while I gave Ivy and Mercy some alone time. I’m now showered and dressed in Mercy’s favorite black jeans and deep red Henley. I walk into the living room to find them all dressed and ready to go.
“You look beautiful, Princess,” I say to Ivy, and wink at Mercy.
Ivy giggles, “Thank you Dr…Liam.”
I smile at her, “Get your tablet, sweetheart.”
She runs back to her bedroom, and I pull my girl into my arms, “You look good enough to eat, baby girl.”
I kiss her quickly as Ivy runs back to us.
“Alright gorgeous ladies. Let’s go.”
We get into the vehicle and start the drive to Xander and Isabella’s house. I take Mercy’s hand in mine while Ivy plays on her tablet in the backseat. That girl loves her technology.
I blow out a breath, “Nash’s sentencing is tomorrow, and I’d like to go.”
She nods, “I know.”
I glance at her quickly, “You know?”
Averting my gaze, she stares out the window, “I’ve been asked to read a victim impact statement. I was thinking of asking Elle to come sit with Ivy while I’m gone.”
