August turns around and his damp fingers thread through my hair.
“You’re alright. You’re safe.”
I lean into his touch and just try to absorb some of his goodness.
“We should get out. The water is getting too cold.”
Fuck, I hadn’t even noticed. I’m shivering when we both step out and my hands are trembling badly. August towels me off and then wraps me up tightly before walking me to his room.
Then this man reaches into his desk and pulls out a sucker.
“Oh my god,” I groan as he unwraps it and feeds it to me. “Didn’t know you ate candy.”
“I wanted to see what all the hype was about,” he says with a soft smile as I roll the sucker around my mouth.
“And?”
“And…it wasn’t that great,” he says.
“Blasphemy,” I gasp and then smile at him. “Thank you.”
“Anytime,” he says and then he moves to sit next to me on the bed. In the background, I can make out the soft music that he’d put on earlier and the rain pattering against the window.
He takes a deep breath, then turns to me and murmurs, “I’m so sorry, Em. For everything.”
“Don’t. We don’t have to do that right now. I’m just glad I’m here with you now.”
August grabs my hand and threads his fingers through mine, pressing his nose against my temple and just breathing me in. I don’t know how I managed to stay away from him for so long.
“What was your dream about?” he finally asks.
“Oh god, you really want to go there right now? This has been so nice. The grim recesses of my mind will darken the mood for sure. We’d be better off discussing how the sun is expanding and will eventually burn us all to ash.”
August just shakes his head and chuckles. He nudges me with his elbow. “You don’t have to, but I’d like to know, if you want to share. It may help you a little if you talk about it.”
I pull my sucker out of my mouth and crawl onto his lap, tucking myself nicely against him and his arms wrap around me.
“Fine. But I’m going to need a little incentive.”
I pucker my lips and August presses a quick kiss to them. I frown at him.
“Seriously? That’s all I get?”
“I just had your cock down my throat.”
My eyes widen at those words, and I snort. “That you did. And you did it very well. Have you done that before?”
“Never.”
“Well, you’re a natural.”
He looks away sheepishly. “It just seemed…right.”
“Of course it did. It wasme.”
He tilts his head and his green eyes bore into mine while he waits.
“Ugh. Fine. If you insist…”
