“Nah, you go on ahead. Whit’s driving. You know how he gets.”
Whit straddles the ATV, and Caleb presses his body against his. “Yes, because I’ll be driving theresafely. You might have nine lives, Caleb, but you’ve used eight of them already.”
“Babe,” Caleb mutters and licks at his neck.
Okay, enough of that, I think as I turn my gaze back to Sem, who is patting the seat of the ATV.
“Come on, Maggie. Get that tiny ass over here.”
I slide on in front of him, and he pulls me into his hard muscular chest, pressing a kiss to my neck.
“Let me get it out of here, and then you can drive it, yeah?”
“Okay, yeah.”
He places the key in the ignition and turns it. The ATV roars to life, and Sem expertly maneuvers it out of the garage. He stops it, and it idles.
“Alright,” he says, slowly instructing me how to shift it into first and get it moving. I do exactly as he says, and it lurches forward. I would have gone flying off if it wasn’t for Sem, clutching me tightly with his thighs.
“Shit!” he shouts as he grabs onto my hands and helps me slow it down.
He’s breathing heavily as Caleb and Whit slowly drive by.
“Suckers!” Caleb shouts as they pass, and Sem flips him off before taking my hands off the bars.
“Alright, Maggie. Not so crazy, yeah? I’d like to make it to the fireworks show alive.”
I arch an eyebrow at him. “Oh, you want to make it there alive so you can then proceed to blow yourself up?”
He shakes his head at me and then helps me put it in gear and lightly gives it some gas. His hands rest on top of mine, and I honestly don’t mind it. I like being close to him in every way.
“Faster,” I say as we pass Whit and Caleb, who are still plugging along.
Sem bites down on my earlobe and then revs the engine, and I squeal as we take off into the darkness.
“Oh my god. Slow down!” I squeal as we bounce over ruts and our tires spin. Sem’s hands clutch mine tightly over the handlebars, and he chuckles darkly in my ear.
Fuck, this is fun. I need to get me one of these.
An explosion lights up the sky, and I glance up.
“Oh my god,” I say as Sem slows the ATV down. In the distance, I can see Luke and Liam lighting off fireworks.
“They couldn’t wait?” I ask.
“They have no patience. Seems like you’ll fit in just fine here,” Sem says.
I nudge him with my elbow as Sem helps me maneuver the ATV a safe distance away. Then he picks me up off the seat, pressing a hand to the back of my neck and leading me forward.
“So, are the cops really going to show up?” I ask as a few more burst from the ground and explode in the sky.
Sem shrugs. “Possibly.”
“Oh my god.”
I’m starting to realize that Whit wasn’t joking, especially as Liam and Luke start laughing maniacally in the distance.
“They’re planning something, aren’t they?” I ask.
