“Do you think you can get Brynne to come to Minnesota?” Storm asked.

“Yeah, she’ll come. I won’t give her a choice.” I glanced at Espada and Cash, shaking their heads. Not about Brynne, though. “Espada and Cash won’t be coming.”

“Excuse me?” Storm growled. “Their assignment is completed.”

“They’ve requested to transfer to Bone’s chapter.” I waited for it…

“Jesus Christ! You better not be fuckin’ with me!” Storm’s voice boomed.

“Wouldn’t dream of it. They’ve lived here for four years, Prez. Cash has ties here. His kid will be born before the end of the year. And Espada has his own reasons for staying.”

Espada shot me a warning look. He didn’t need to worry. I wouldn’t tell Storm anything else. If Espada wanted to share the details, that was on him.

“I suppose you assholes have already proposed this to Bone?”

“Yes, Prez.” Espada and Cash said in unison.

“Fuckin’ hell. You both are a bunch of traitors.” He mumbled to himself and threw something that sounded like a can. “But I understand. Montana’s become your home. I just hate losing you.”

“Appreciate it, Storm,” Espada said. “We’re still Knights. Always will be.”

“Knights forever, forever Knights,” Cash shouted with his fist in the air.

“I’ll get with Cobra and Bone the first chance I get. Dammit. You guys are breaking my dead heart.” Storm’s heart wasn’t dead. It had a strong heartbeat with his Angel’s and baby’s name on it. It was Madeline who had breathed life into the grumpy asshole. He was a better man and president because of his wife.

The same was true for me with Brynne. My Bonita helped me to embrace intimacy in a healthy way. I didn’t have to stay detached from a woman or lurk in the corner of a room and masturbate while I watched a chick get herself off. I could lower my guard with her, be vulnerable and receive love.

Fuck, what would I do if she wouldn’t forgive me?

“So are we all on the same page, VP?” Storm asked my dad.

“Yeah, I’m just here listening and taking orders.” Typical. His feelings were probably insulted because Storm didn’t ask his opinion about anything. Tough shit, old man.

Storm snorted. “Alright then. I want you all back by the week’s end.” He paused for a few seconds. “Don’t kill each other, okay? I need my VP and best friend in one piece.” The call ended. His final words proved Storm had a heart.

I nudged my head at Espada and Cash to get lost. I need a private minute with my dad. When they were gone and sat across from him. It was too soon to sit next to him. He might haul off and punch me again.

His narrowed black eyes pinned me in my chair.

“Do you really believe I fell in love with Tina’s daughter on purpose? That I was just being an asshole and getting my jollies off with my stepmom’s daughter? I love Tina. You know that.”

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

“What was I gonna say?”

“How about the truth?”

“Dad, I couldn’t even tell Brynne the truth about her mom being alive and who I really was. There was no way I could tell you I’d fallen for her. I tried for weeks to resist her. To push her away. Why do you think I went to that sex club with Espada?”

“I know your struggles, son. It was the same for me with Tina. I didn’t want to love her. Thought your mama would think I was betraying her. I did everything to push Tina away. I had sex with kittens in front of her to hurt her so she wouldn’t want me.”

“No way? Damn, that’s cruel.”

“Yes.”

“And here you are married to her and with two more kids. I’d say it worked out well for you.”

“Oh, she made me pay and has had me by the balls since.” He laughed and scrubbed his hands down his face. “But Tina’s daughter?”
