“But at least you’d have your woman. Nothing better than that, am I right?” He wiggled his black eyebrows.

He was right. Having Brynne was all I wanted.

Brynne

My feet stopped moving when I saw his car in the parking lot. Did he hope to see me? I was sure he hadn’t forgotten our conversation about Ted’s.

Instead of going to the employee entrance in the back, I went through the main doors. I no longer had the desire to perform.

My heart fluttered as I searched for Joseph. I didn’t know what I’d do if he was in a viewing room already. Probably barge in and ruin his show. Jealousy surged through my veins as I imagined him drooling and getting off to another woman.

No way would I allow him to get satisfied by anyone other than me.

I smiled when I spotted him with a man covered in ink at the bar. Could it be the friend he had mentioned?

I sashayed toward Joseph and sidled up beside him. “Hi.”

He turned his face my way, a look of surprise. “Hey. You working tonight?”

“Maybe.”

He hiked a dark brow. “Why are you here?”

“The same reason as you.”

“Are we doing this again? Dancing around and making each other dizzy?” He threw back a shot. It looked like tequila, judging by the salt and limes.

“I hoped to see you here.” I took one of his glasses, swallowed the clear liquid, and sucked on a wedge of lime.

I leaned closer to him so his friend, eyeing me, couldn’t hear. “I missed you.”

“Bonita, I already told you we can’t.”

The bartender came over. “Your room is ready.”

Joseph nodded and stared at me, guilt in his dark depths. He looked like a man tormented by doing what was right, then what was in his heart.

I placed my hand on his knee and raised up onto my tiptoes. He didn’t back away, so I went for it and kissed him. He responded and looped his arm around my waist, pulling me flush against his body.

“Ese, this might be your only chance,” his friend muttered. Did he mean after tonight, Joseph would never see me again?

Not if I had a say in it. I slipped my tongue passed his lips and curled it with his. Joseph growled and deepened the kiss. Finally, he seemed to go after what he wanted.

Thank you, Jesus!

“That’s right, brother. Be a man, vato,” the tattooed man said.

I couldn’t help but smile atvato. I knew it meant dude in English. “Yeah, vato. Be a man,” I said against Joseph’s lips.

“Shit. You need to know I want you, but—”

“Shh. Not another word.” I placed my finger on his plump, delicious lips. “Take me to your room. We can view the performance together.”

Joseph considered me a long second. Behind him, his friend bobbed his head in agreement. I liked him.

“I’m so screwed,” Joseph hissed.
