I grunted and pushed her up against the counter. Away from the hot stove so she didn’t get burned. I lifted her leg and wrapped it around my thigh. If Birdie wasn’t in the room, I’d fuck my woman right this second. Instead, I kissed her neck and rubbed my raging hard-on against her.

“Kaleb,” she gasped. “We can’t.”

“I know.” I nibbled her shoulder. “Why’d you let me sleep in? You know I don’t like it when you get up without me.”

“Aww, because I love you and know you needed the extra rest.”

“I need to be with my wife, period.” I raised her chin with my thumb so she’d look at me. “I don’t like to wake up alone.”

“Won’t happen again.”

I snaked my hands around her waist and tugged her close. “I can’t lose you.”

“You won’t. Tell me what’s bothering you.” She scratched my neck the way I liked.

“Nothing. Everything.” I kissed her forehead and inhaled her into my lungs. “Just a lot going on, y’know?”

“Baby, you’ve been restless ever since Track left. And I get it. He’s your best friend, and a lot could go wrong with the rescue, but it won’t.”

“I wish I could be as optimistic as you, but I’m not. It feels like we’re due for some awful shit and my greatest fear is something happening to you. And Birdie too.”

My baby girl squealed just then banged her sippy cup.

“Come here, handsome.” Angel took my hand and led me to the table. She pulled the chair out, pushed me down, and climbed into my lap. “Hold me. Feel me. I’m here, and I am not going anywhere. None of us are.” She put my hand on her stomach.

“The three of you are my world.”

“And you’re ours. Anything else bothering you?”

“Ciro Remotti and his brother, Roman, are coming out for a face-to-face about Rosa. I don’t know what I’m going to tell him, Angel. Wolf has given it his all day and night searching for her. Every lead resulted in nothing. I hate to say it, but I don’t think we’ll ever find her.” My stomach churned. God only knew what had happened to that young woman.

“It’s truly heartbreaking, but you and the club have done all you can. The Remottis’ will understand.”

“Wolf doesn’t want to stop searching, but I need him here.”

“He’s just trying to make up for losing Jill. Poor man.” Her baby blues shimmered with emotion.

“Don’t start crying, baby. I can’t take it.” When my girl was sad, it almost destroyed me. Madeline should always be happy and smiling.

She pecked my lips. “Let me get Birdie’s breakfast, then we can talk more.” She hopped off my lap and went to the stove.

Talk? It wasn’t really my thing.

I leaned toward Birdie and kissed her cheek. “Morning, baby girl.”

She fisted my beard and raised her sippy cup like she wanted me to drink from it.

“Mmm.” I smacked my lips and pretended like I had a taste. “Yummy.”

Angel laughed, snorting a little. “If your brothers heard you. Yummy? Oh my gosh, you’re so damn adorable.”

I scowled. “Watch it, Angel, or I’ll spank your bottom.”

“Promises, promises.” Yeah, she liked my hand slapping her ass cheek. Turned her on the second her flesh met my palm. Slap. Sting. Cream.

“Angel,” I said her name in a warning tone before I carried her off to the bedroom for a quick fuck. “This is a private moment between my daughter and me.”

“Good gracious, Kaleb. I won’t tell them. I know better.” She rolled her eyes, all sassy, and placed a pink plastic plate in front of Birdie.
