“No.”
“Yes.”
“He loved you, Karma. You were getting married. There’s no way he cheated on you.”
“I heard them in his room at the club, Levi. You weren’t there, but I was.”
“Jesus Christ,” he seethed. “I’m going to fuck him up when I see him.”
“You really didn’t know why we broke up?” I stepped back, feeling weak in the knees. Why would Abe hide what happened from his brother? He obviously didn’t love me. Maybe he screwed that chick on purpose, hoping I’d discover them and break up with him.
“No, I didn’t know. I guess that’s why he didn’t care when I told him I knew where you were.”
“Yeah, I’m sure it is.” My heart seized and hot tears burned my eyes. I didn’t want Abe anyway.Liar.
“Why would he cheat on you?”
“Because he’s an asshole? A greedy bastard who wanted to have his cake and eat it too?” I threw my hands up in the air. “Because he didn’t love me?”
“Nuh-uh, he loved you.”
“Bullshit,” I snapped at him. “I don’t want to rehash this. I moved on with my life. Let’s leave the past in the past.”
“Mommy?” Nova called at the worst possible moment. “Sadie needs to pee.”
“I got her.” Jaynee waddled away.
“You have two girls?” Levi asked.
Don’t lose your cool, lady.
“No. One is Jaynee’s.” I went to the door and opened it. “Please leave.”
“I’m not the enemy, babe. I hate what he did to you.” Levi’s whole demeanor changed. “I honestly had no idea.”
“I find that hard to believe, but whatever. He didn’t break me.”
“You’ve always been strong. I’ll leave you in peace.” He tugged me into a hug. “I gotta get home. A big welcome home party in my honor is going down. I’d invite you, but…”
“No thanks. I appreciate it, though.”
“You’re as beautiful as always. I even like the black hair.” He released me. “If you need anything—”
“I won’t.” I stared into his stormy-gray eyes. “I have a great network of friends here, but thanks.”
“Good. Take care, Karma.” He stepped out of the house and strutted toward his hog.
“You too, Levi.” I shut the door and leaned against it, feeling as if my legs would surely give out.
“Oh girl, are you okay?”
“I will be.” I raised my gaze to Jaynee’s. “But it kind of feels like I lost Abe all over again.”
Jaynee wrapped her arms around me. “I’m so sorry. Come to the compound. It’ll take your mind off stuff.”
“I don’t know.”
“Oh, come on. It’ll be fun. Nova and Sadie can have a sleepover. You could stay over too and get as drunk as you want.”
