Prologue

Karma

My Knight strutted up the front walk fearlessly. He was the cockiest, most confident guy in North Dakota. It sounded cliché, even to me, but he was tall, dark, and handsome.

And he was all mine.

Little ol’ me had somehow captured the big, bad biker’s heart and wrapped it around my little finger so tightly that I was never letting him go.

I swooned for a quick second, then anxiety replaced the happy flutters in my stomach. Abe should’ve been terrified my dad would call the sheriff on him. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt if Abe were in my dad’s shoes, he would’ve killed the older man after his daughter.

But Abe Knight didn’t fear anyone. His family’s name and club’s power had put them at the top of the food chain. They ruled and maintained order in North Dakota, even having the upper hand over some smaller motorcycle clubs.

The Knights doled out swift and sometimes deadly punishments if anyone dared to cross them. The “deadly” part was an assumption from gossip I’d heard around town. Abe never discussed club business with me. He never alluded to their methods of dealing with their enemies.

My dad’s biggest problem with Abe was the nine-year age difference. It never fazed Abe and me. It was child’s play, a minor offense to us, and it sure as hell wouldn’t keep Abe from me.

However, Abe wasn’t a fool. Going to jail for having sex with a minor would ruin our lives and our future plans. So, he never crossed the line. When he’d revealed how he felt a couple of years ago, I’d seen how tormented he’d been over wanting me. It had made me love him all the more.

Abe had never tried anything more than kissing and a little touching. He wouldn’t even let me give him a blowjob. He had respected and loved me and was over the top protective. When my parents lost all their money in the slot machines, Abe had made sure I had everything I needed and wanted.

Of course, my parents hated him regardless of how well he treated me, because he was a “dirty, old biker.” They weren’t the cream of the crop either. Abe had treated me a thousand percent better than my parents ever had.

Even Abe’s family accepted us as a couple… sort of. His parents had welcomed me into their home many years ago. They wouldn’t allow me near the clubhouse, but I hadn’t cared. I’d seen plenty of action out at their farm to feed my hunger for adventure and drama.

Abe’s brothers had given him shit and teased him about my age, but I hadn’t cared about that either. I had been crushing on Abe since I was in the third grade. His little brother Silas had been a classmate of mine. It was through Silas that I first met my Knight. Sadly, Silas hated Abe for stealing my heart because he loved me first. Maybe he had, but I hadn’t felt anything more than friendship for him.

The older I got, the more time I’d spent with the Knights and Abe. It had been impossible to resist him, impossible to not fall in love with him.

After years of restraining our desires, locking them away in captivity, we could finally release them like a herd of wild horses.

Tonight, on my eighteenth birthday, Abe would have me in all the ways he wanted. And I couldn’t wait.

A firm knock at the door had me squealing inside as I got my backpack. Abe had something planned for our first time together. He’d told me it would be a night I’d never forget.

“What the hell do you want?” My dad shouted.

“Karma.”

“Karma, my ass. Go home and find someone your own age.”

I peeked around the corner, suddenly second-guessing myself. What if my dad went nuts? Abe wouldn’t stand for it and would strike back.

Cobra was the road name he was given by his granddad, Charlie, who’d fought in Vietnam and flew airplanes. He loved the “cobra maneuver.” I never understood the airplane talk Abe, his brothers, and dad fell into regularly. Apparently, the term matched Abe’s personality—dramatic and demanding—but I liked thinking of him as a snake because of his black hair and intense stare. Either way, nobody messed with my Knight.

Abe saw me hesitate and gestured with his finger to come to him.

I straightened my spine and absorbed his powerful aura into my soul. He gave me confidence and courage. I had nothing to worry about with him here. He’d never let my dad stop me from leaving. Now that I was a legal adult, Abe would claim me in his club and make me his old lady. My days living under my parent’s roof were numbered.

“I’m warning you, Karma. Don’t leave with this piece of shit,” my dad said through gritted teeth. “Do you want to break your momma’s heart?”

“Oh, please.” I waved him off as I faced Abe at the door. “She only cares about me a little more than you do.”

“Let’s go.” Abe reached his hand out. As I went to take it, my dad grabbed my arm, dug his nails into my skin, and shoved me behind him.

I cried out in pain, stumbling back.

“Don’t you ever touch her again!” Abe roared as he pounced on my dad, slamming him against the wall over and over again. The forceful thrusts knocked my baby pictures onto the carpet.
