I followed her lead, emptying my mug. The booze relaxed me, which was good.

Run? Why did I feel like she didn’t mean actual running? If I remembered after tonight, I’d ask Zander about it.

She sniffled. “Anyway, when I got to the clubhouse, one of the club bitches had told me he was in his room with one of the other girls. She went on about me having no business hanging around Abe. That I was too young for him.”

“Damn. Were you too young?” I studied Karma more closely. We might be around the same age of twenty-five.

Karma rolled her eyes. “I was eighteen and he was twenty-seven. I guess to some, like that club whore, I was too young. I was legal and in love with him. Hell, I even thought he loved me too.”

“So you left and took your secret.”

“No. I went up to his room. I didn’t want to believe the club bitch. But I heard him fucking one of the girls.”

“Holy shit, really?” I was stunned but also more intrigued. The booze was getting to me. “What’d you do?”

“The door was locked, so I pounded on it. They got quiet, but I heard the bitch giggling. She laughed at me, and he didn’t appear to care. It totally destroyed me.”

Clearly.

I couldn’t imagine. I would’ve been destroyed too.

“Sadie’s dad doesn’t want anything to do with her. He throws money at me sometimes. Gives her a gift for her birthday and Christmas. She desperately wants a daddy.”

“Poor baby. He knows about her and doesn’t want her… fucker.” Boy, was the Jack getting to her, or was this just Karma?

“Yes, he is one.” I tapped my nails on the table. I wanted to know more about the kittens, but I didn’t want to go there. Zander was right that what we’d done before meeting each other wasn’t a betrayal. The problem was I liked him even though I tried not to. And that kiss was out of this world. My lips still tingled.

But he was a player.

What if he was hooking up with Amber tonight since he missed her morning wake-up call? Yeah, I didn’t want to go there. I didn’t want to imagine him with the cute, adorable, sexy pixie.

Nova shuffled in, rubbing her eyes. Her long dark hair was in a braid. “Mommy, I’m tired. Sadie fell asleep during the movie.”

I smiled. “I should put my girl to bed.”

“Same with this one.” Karma tugged Nova into her arms and gave her an Eskimo kiss. “Who loves you, sweetness?”

“You do, sweetness.” Nova gave Karma a butterfly kiss.

So precious.

I took a shower, which I desperately needed after I put Sadie in the bed we’d share. While under the hot water, Zander was with me. In my head, I imagined him singing “Back at One” to me. He kissed down the curve of my neck, his hands skimming my hips, arousing me with his sexy voice.

It was safe to assume I dipped my fingers between the folds of my pussy and got myself off. I needed a release like I needed my next breath. It was vital to my health. A necessity for my happiness.

Now I lay beside my baby girl, my body humming and tingling because my fingers were merely the first course. I was beyond turned on, more than I might’ve ever been. I had half a mind to call Zander and order him to come to finish what he’d started with the sensual kiss he gave me.

Alas, I left the phone on the nightstand beside me and forced my hands to stay under my head to avoid temptation.

My cell pinged with a message. My breathing hitched, knowing it washim. I grabbed my device and read his text.

Zander: All settled in?

Jaynee: Yeah. We’re in bed.

Zander: Me too.

I noticed the time. It was only a quarter to eleven. It seemed early for him to be in bed, unless he was waiting for someone to join him. Hmm.
