“An old lady.”
“Unbelievable. Matt must be grinning his stupid, cocky grin right now. He always said the right woman would tie you down, but I never believed him.”
I snorted. “He was too damn arrogant for his own good.”
“Amen brother.” The sheriff saluted the sky. Hendricks respected my uncle and loved him like a son, despite being the president of an outlaw biker club.
“If the club doesn’t handle the Hunters our way, it could get uglier than two women being assaulted.” I didn’t forget about Ire. He didn’t look so good when I’d checked on him before leaving the clubhouse. With Hendricks, I needed to appeal to his fatherly side. Aunt Eve was all he had left in the world.
“Try to keep it in Bastion. I don’t have jurisdiction in Winters. Sheriff Bush and Deputy Miller won’t turn a blind eye.”
I fisted my hands hearing deputy fuckin’ Miller’s name. “I know. Why do you think it’s taken us so long to contain them. They stay in Winters. Someone is helping them.”
“I’ll ask around. Do what needs to be done and keep my girl… and yours safe.”
Hell yeah I’ll keep my girl safe.
I gave the sheriff a short nod and glanced over my shoulder at Track. It was on. The Hunters better run out of Minnesota because the Knight’s Legion was coming for them.

I tried to make myself helpful around the clubhouse while Storm was off doing whatever it was the president of an MC did. We’d napped for a couple of hours, then he made love to me before going to church.Church. When I’d looked at him strangely, he’d chuckled and rephrased his statement, “A meeting.”
Church was an hour ago, and I had yet to see him. I knew he was in the building, which gave me a little comfort.
Tina, Raul’s old lady, was busy preparing several pans of tater tot hotdish for dinner. She’d said it was the men’s favorite comfort food.
“So, what are you putting in the hotdish?” I was chopping veggies and fruit while we chatted.
Tina snorted. “Everything but the kitchen sink.”
I peered into the pans. “No mixed vegetables?”
“No ma’am. The men in the club only like green beans in it.”
“Huh, maybe that’s why yours looks tastier than others I’ve tried. It smells better too.”
“I add my own special mix of spices to it.” She winked. “Tater tot hotdish is a staple around here. You really can’t mess it up.”
“I’ve seen some pretty nasty ones.” I wrinkled my nose. I didn’t care for casseroles, hotdish, or tater tots. “So, how many are we feeding?” I assembled slices of cantaloupe on an aluminum tray.
“Twenty to thirty, maybe more.” The speed she moved around the kitchen, you’d think it was her own. Well, I guess in a way it was, since she was an old lady.
“Wow. I’ll cut up some more melons.”
Tina smiled warmly. She was a pretty woman with sandy blonde hair, olive-green eyes, and about my height. Storm had told me Tina was thirty-eight, but she looked much younger. She had another daughter who was twenty. Storm had said Tina’s daughter wasn’t with her, but not by choice. He didn’t want to tell me why, saying it was Tina’s story to tell. The look in his stormy eyes told me it wasn’t good. I just hoped Tina would one day feel comfortable and safe with me to share about her daughter.
“So, you and Storm… Is it serious?” She smirked as if her plan worked when I stilled.
“I um, well, um…” I sighed, setting the knife down and turning toward her. “I’ve only known him for a short time.”
“Yes, but are you serious about him? There’s no time limit on feelings.”
“Can this stay between you and me? I mean, I know your loyalties are to Raul, Storm, and the club, but can this be just between us girls?”
Tina bounced over excitedly and took my hands in hers. “Yes. I need another ol’ lady around here to gab and bitch with when my man is driving me nuts. I can’t complain to Sugar. It only makes her miss Matt. And I’d rather not get close to the kittens.”
