The partygoers at their backs shuffled out of the way.
Both basketball behemoths smiled—then sprung up on a backward slant, hands raised above their heads, and lobbed the lightweight balls.
Breck chuckled, watching their duo fadeaway shots.Show offs.
And yet, their aim was on the fucking money.
Slosh—sloshinto two more cups.
The crowd cheered.
“Damn it,” Charlie laughed, fishing his out.
Breck sighed, following suit. Then more beer, down the hatch.
Charlie wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “What say you, King? Should we bank or bounce this time?”
Breck’s lips curved. “Bank.”
Charlie beamed. “My thoughts exactly.” And damn, if he didn’t look all but torched. That boy indulged in his devil’s lettuce almost as much as his beer. Charlie waved their opponents in. “Step closer, my brothas. Then stand fuckin’ still.”
Jegs smirked as he and Reggie moved to the table’s edge. They’d clearly just read the writing on the wall. “Shit, junkyard dog. That’s awfully ballsy.” He snorted at his pun. “Sure you wanna go out lookin’ like a fool?”
Breck shook his head. Jegs was obviously trashed, too. Charlie’s bank shot wasalwayson point and one of the most consistent in college basketball.
Charlie grinned and pointed at Jegs. “Just stay the fuck put.” He looked at Breck. “You ready?”
Breck gave a nod, determined to make Jegs eat his words.
But right as they readied to do their little jig, two very inebriated females called out from the crowd, “No, wait!”
Breck and Charlie swapped looks, then turned and peered behind them. A pair of little hotties were eagerly shuffling their way forward, and they were definitely small in the literal sense. Neither one was more than five foot— Breck cursed, recognizing them both. The brunette was that knockout Charlie recently scored with, but the other was a honey he had hit it with in the past.
Jade, with eyes to match her name. Lean, tight body. Smooth brown skin. Thick black lashes. Long blonde dreads with the top pulled back into a sexy knot. Even wasted, she radiated confidence like a supernova, fully aware that she was drop-dead gorgeous. And thus, she expected all men to delight in her approach. Which, in fairness, most definitely did. Even Breck had, the night they’d gotten together.
Things were different now though, and he wasn’t feeling it.
Dragging over a chair, they parked it between Breck and Charlie, then clambered atop it, putting them at a comparable height.
“We come bearing good luck,” Jade announced.
Aw, fuck. Here it comes.
Both mamas turned with smiles to their respective recipients. Charlie laughed as his flung her arms around him and planted a kiss on his grinning lips. Onlookers hooted. Breck braced as Jade turned his way, her green eyes flashing with clear intent. She grasped his shoulders.
Ugh.Her hands werelittle. Andcold.
So utterly opposite to what he’d grown accustomed to. He relished Kai’s hot, strong grip, and now Jade’s made him want to shudder.
“C’mere, handsome.” She beamed. “A kiss for good luck.”
But right as she leaned close and closed her eyes, Breck turned and gave her his cheek. Instinctive. Done entirely without thinking about how she’d react, or how it’d look to the crowd. Her lips made contact, then stilled. Onlookers howled in laughter, no doubt assuming that Breck had done it as a joke.
Thank God. They could’ve assumed far worse. Like that he wasn’t interested in the ladies anymore. And they would’ve been correct. At least, partially anyway. He wasn’t interested inanyone, regardless of their gender, if that person wasn’t Kai.
Jade leaned back and eyed him with a puzzled look. He forced a grin—then grunted as her body flew abruptly into his. Charlie’s honey had lost her balance and knocked her over. Jade’s arms snapped around him as her tits crushed against his chest. She smelled like perfume and Mike’s Hard Lemonade.
Breck cursed under his breath, steadying them both. “Damn, girl,” he laughed tightly. “You better get down. It’s not safe way up here for a little thing like you.”
