She barked out her laugh, “I think that’s the first time that you’ve referred to me as an adult. You’ve called me a child, little girl, and even Joel’s little sister, which I hated by the way.”
“Yeah, I picked up on that,” he said, “but, you are an adult and I’m pretty sure that the two of us can navigate having to share a bed. I mean, you have slept with a man before, right?” he asked.
“Technically, no,” she said. “If you’re asking if I’ve had sex, the answer is yes, but I usually don’t spend the night with a guy afterward. If the guy comes to my place, I usually end up kicking him out. I don’t like the whole attachment thing that happens when two people sleep together in the same bed.”
“Well, how about I promise not to get attached to you while you’re in my bed?” he asked.
“Yeah well, it wouldn’t matter anyway because I have no plans on getting attached to you either,” she sassed.
“Good to know, honey,” he grumbled. “Now that we have that worked out, how about we get some shut-eye?” She nodded and followed him to the stairs.
“I’m feeling a little woozy,” she said, “I think it’s from the medicine.” Her world started to spin, and Demon pulled her into his arms, cradling her against his chest.
“Better?” he asked.
“Yes, thank you,” she said. “I’m just a little light-headed.”
“We’ll get settled in bed and I’m sure that you’ll be fine then,” he said. Luna hoped that he was right because she was feeling more tired by the second. She wasn’t sure if she had fallen asleep on him, as he carried her to his bed, or if she passed out once he laid her down. Either way, she was down for the count and as she drifted to sleep, she could feel his body lying next to hers, but none of that mattered now. The only thing she wanted was the darkness that was consuming her, and hopefully, it would help her heal.
Demon
It had been almost five days since Luna agreed to sleep in his bed every night. Five long nights of having her lay next to him while he fantasized about all of the things that he wanted to do with her, but he never dared to cross the imaginary line that ran down the center of his bed.
Today was different though. Today, Demon woke up with Luna pressed up against this body, her leg thrown over his. She had kept her distance night after night, but today, he woke up to find out who she really was. Apparently, Luna was a cuddler when she slept, and that shocked the hell out of him. The little spitfire didn’t seem the type to cuddle, but here she was, practically laying on top of him, drooling on his shoulder.
He wrapped his arms around her and held her, surprised at how good it felt to have her in his bed. “Um, what’s going on?” she asked, her cheek pressed to his chest.
“You were like this when I woke up, so I decided what the hell?”
Luna sat up and looked down at him as if he had lost his mind. Each day, her bruises had gotten a bit better. Instead of the purple and black bruising around her eye, she now had golden yellow and brown bruises. Her eye had finally opened up and her lip was almost healed. She still looked as though she had gone a few rounds with a heavyweight boxer and lost, but she was on the mend. Demon wasn’t afraid to touch her anymore, and maybe that was a bad thing, but he couldn’t help himself.
“You decided what the hell?” she repeated back to him. “What the hell does that mean?”
“It means that I’m done pretending, Luna,” he admitted. For the past week, he had spent most of his time trying to talk himself out of wanting her. Every day that he spent with her, getting to know her better, made that nearly impossible. He was falling for her, not that he was about to tell her that. First, he needed to show her how good things could be between them, and then, he’d spill the beans that he wanted her to move into his place, permanently. But with the way that she was looking at him right now, she didn’t seem too keen about any of his future plans with her.
“Done pretending?” she questioned. She was turning into a little parrot, and he was itching to get to the point.
“I like you, Luna,” he breathed, running his hands up and down her back.
“I like you too, Demon,” she said. “I mean, at first, I thought you were a giant pain in the ass, but you kind of grown on me,” she said.
“I’m just happy that you’ve stopped calling me Grandpa,” he teased.
“Well, you did finally quit calling me a kid, so I thought that I could do the same for you. Plus, I only called you that because you seemed to really hate it. I told you before, your age doesn’t really matter to me.”
“No?” he asked. She shook her head and smiled down at him, taking his damn breath away. “So, it would be all right with you if I did this then?” he asked, pulling her back down on top of him to seal his mouth over hers. By the time he finished with her, they were both panting and if he wasn’t mistaken, she liked the kiss.
“Yeah,” she breathed, “that would be all right with me. Do it again,” she ordered. He rolled her underneath his body and kissed her until she was moaning out his name when he let her up for air.
“Still okay?” he asked.
“More than okay,” she agreed. “If we do this, I don’t want to go back to just being friends,” she said.
“Were we ever friends?” he asked.
“I’d like to think so, but if you need clarification, if we have sex, I don’t want to go back to me being Joel’s little sister, who you signed up to protect. I want more,” she whispered.
“You want more?” he asked. “When we have sex, honey, you will be my Ol’lady, and there will be no going back. You’ll be mine, Luna. Are you good with that?” he asked.
