“I think so, although Brent only moved here a couple years ago, and you were gone by then. He’s a great guy, and I think he’s actually a foster father of sorts too, just like me.”
“Oh, really?” I tilt my head. “I had no idea so many men were foster parents. Does he have a wife?”
Andreas chuckles. “No, not that I know of, which is why we’re similar. But Brent, if I’m not mistaken, has both a young woman and a young man living with him in his trailer at the moment. I don’t think it’s formal or anything like that. I think he’s the type of guy who picks up strays.”
“Oh, I see,” I nod in understanding. But then, Andreas smiles with a glint to his eye.
“Yeah, but Brent’s a motherfucker because I believe there are some shenanigans going on under his roof.”
My eyes widen.
“Really? What do you mean? As in something spicy going on between the stepbrother and stepsister?”
Andreas shrugs a bit, winking.
“I don’t know, although the young womanisvery beautiful. But yes, I think she may be sleeping with her foster brother, and not only that, but I suspect there’s something going on between all three of them. Brent, the young woman, andthe young man.”
“Holy fuck,” growls Nico, looking up from a box he’s packing. “What kind of messed up situation is that?”
Andreas merely nods.
“Hey, it’s not my business and I’m not getting involved. In fact, I’m leaving the country, so it’s definitely not something I’m getting into.”
With that, Nico chuckles.
“Yeah, we probably shouldn’t ask because our own familial situation is a little unorthodox so to say. But we’re unorthodox in a good way,” he amends. “You have three parents, Petunia, as well as one very loving fiancé.”
I giggle, but then my dad smiles at me.
“Petunia,” he begins. “It’s bittersweet to leave you, my daughter, but believe me when I say that things are changing for the better. I’m glad you know the truth of who you are now, and I’m also comfortable leaving you under the protection of your betrothed.”
I smile.
“What’s with all the fancy words, Dad? What are you getting at?”
Andreas merely smiles at me again, his features relaxing so that he looks almost bemused.
“I’ll miss you, honey,” he says. “You will always be my daughter, and we can FaceTime anytime you’re available. But yes, I’m glad you’re engaged to be married to Nico,” he growls. “You’re safe with him, and now young man, Petunia’s well-being rests with you.”
Nico’s blue eyes flash.
“Of course. I’d protect her with my life,” he growls. “You can count on it, sir.”
But then I interject, laying one hand on my still-flat tummy.
“And we’ll be FaceTiming a lot because guess what, Dad? You’re going to be a grandfather soon. I’m pregnant, so you’re going to have a grandchild in your arms by next year!”
Andreas looks so surprised that he can’t even speak, but I nod as tears prick my eyes.
“Soon you’ll be Grandpappy Andreas. Or however they say grandpappy in Greek.”
With that, my dad’s face breaks out in a huge smile as he wipes at his eyes.
“Who knew?” he marvels to himself while blotting his cheeks with a Kleenex. “Life is so unpredictable.”
“It is, isn’t it?” I say with a soft smile at my father before turning to my handsome fiancé. “Life is exactly what you make of it, and in this case, I know I’ve gotten the best of both worlds, both Greek and American.”
My words are true too because Nico Matthews means everything to me, and with his baby in my belly, we’ll be moving forward into a life of joy and comfort. Maybe I’m Petunia, or maybe I’m Persephone, or maybe I’m both. But no matter what, I will always be Mrs. Nico Matthews and the wife of this handsome man.
