Phantom
Because I asked him too.
Bullseye’s words rattled around in my head as I tried to get a handle on my emotions. It was one thing for him to do whatever was requested of him regarding the club, but to ask a favor because of me, made no sense.
Well, none that I was willing to consider.
I wasn’t even going to think about the cluster fuck Reaper was dealing with. When Matrix called Bullseye boss, Reaper lost his shit. Ripped the fucking television off the wall, smashing it against the wall. That was when Ghost ordered everyone out of church. The noise coming from that room was still making brothers jump and curse.
This whole game they were playing had come to a head. Whatever was going on between the two men surpassed my cognitive understanding. I was just as confused as the others.
Ghost stood guard outside the church doors, waiting for Reaper’s word to intervene. The rest of the brothers milled around, saying nothing as they processed what they just saw. Me, I had other concerns on my plate. I didn’t have time to deal with a man who should be dead and would be as soon as Reaper got done with him. As far as I was concerned, William Doherty was about to get exactly what he deserved.
A soft knock at my door brought me out of my stupor. Answering it, I was surprised to find Ari waiting nervously.
“Ari?”
“Hello Phantom. May I please have a moment of your time?”
“Sure,” I said, stepping to the side and allowing her entry into my office. Ari wasn’t like anyone I would ever associate with a biker club. She was too sweet. Too innocent. She was everything good in this world, untainted by the evil we’ve all grown accustomed to. Ghost adored and sheltered her, keeping her far away from anything club related. So having her in my office was strange, to say the least. We had absolutely nothing in common. I had to admit I was intrigued. Why would the sweetest woman on the planet want to talk to me?
Motioning for her to take a seat, I did the same and asked, “So, what can I do for you, Ari? Is Becca okay?”
“Oh, she’s wonderful.”
“The baby?”
Ari smiled serenely, her hands gently covering her stomach protectively. “The baby is good.”
“Okay,” I said, more confused than ever.
“I would like to ask a favor of you,” she barely said, looking down at her hands.
“What’s the favor?”
“Can you drive me somewhere?”
“I can, but why don’t you ask Ghost? You know he would take you anywhere you want to go.”
“I know. He’s sweet like that, but I can’t ask him this.”
Okay, this was getting interesting. Where would Ari want to go that Ghost wouldn’t take her? The man catered to her every need. Hell, if she sneezed, he freaked out and took her to a damn doctor. The man was seriously gone on his woman.
Treading carefully, I asked. “Where do you want to go?”
“To Oregon. More specifically, I need to go to the Disciples of the Word compound.”
Okay. Not what I was expecting.
We all knew that Ari Nichols was from Oregon. In fact, she was formerly a member of the Disciples of the Word and scheduled for death because she refused to abide by their laws. My own brother Gadget risked his life to rescue her from that cult. Ghost wanted nothing more than to blow the fucking place to smithereens. He said just that not even a few hours ago. As far as I knew, Ari wanted nothing to do with the cult she was raised in, so it was strange that she would ask me to drive her to Oregon, where the cult was.
“Why do you want to go back there, Ari?”
“I need to get someone.”
“Who?”
Ari said nothing, her head still hanging low as she twisted and rubbed her fingers nervously. She was scared. Regardless of what she asked of me, I could tell she didn’t want to go. Yet, she was asking me, someone she rarely interacted with, to take her there.
