Ghost
I was sitting at the small table in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee when Reaper came storming in. Bullseye's words still bothered me. I couldn’t get back to sleep, so I sat in the quiet of the kitchen, trying to figure out what he was trying to tell me.
I wasn’t having any luck.
Looking up at Reaper, I said nothing as he plopped his ass down in a chair next to me.
My head was throbbing. No matter what I did, I couldn’t make sense of his words. His cryptic message left a lot unanswered. I was going to need some help to decipher it and help me figure it all out. But what drove me crazy was that I knew what he meant, according to Bullseye.
I didn’t know shit!
He said ‘I understand better than most. That truth goes a long way’. What the fuck did he mean by that? What did I know? Still, no closer to clarity, my attention was diverted by Reaper’s fingers strumming on the kitchen table. He was annoying on a good day, but getting a good look at him, I could tell he was antsy. Something had happened to make him come alive. I hadn’t seen him like this in months. With my interest peeked, I waited him out.
Fucking Doherty’s.
Neither of them could just come out and say what they needed. It was like pulling teeth. They were aggravating on a good day. After a few moments of silence, I turned to him and said, “Can I help you?”
“Hangman is back in town.”
“I heard,” I muttered into my coffee cup. “Tell me something I don’t know.”
“He, Patty and the boys will be arriving tonight.”
Okay, that got my attention. “Why?”
Instead of answering me, Reaper started babbling, “Get some boys to clear out one of the family quarters. Then go get Phantom out of that fucking cave she lives in. I need her.”
Taking another look at Reaper, I noticed he seemed happy, almost giddy. He was freaking me out. The man never smiled and he sure as hell was acting like a toddler in a candy store.
Something was up. The man looked as if he’d just won the fucking lottery. I took another sip of my coffee and asked, “You okay?”
“Yep,” he grinned as a shiver of unease trickled down my spine.
“You’re freaking me out man. Stop it.”
Reaper jumped to his feet, slapping the table. “Today is a fucking great day!”
“Uh-huh,” I muttered. “And why is that?”
“Because I know what I’m going to do.”
“Again…and that is?”
“I’m going to fuck them all in the ass.” He grinned evilly as he walked out of the kitchen. Where he was going, I had no clue. I knew that when Reaper got like this, many men died. Whatever had him doing his happy dance didn’t bode well for anyone else.
I cringed, thinking of what the aftermath was going to look like. The last time Reaper was this fucking happy was when he ordered the hit on Pops. The man drank himself into oblivion and fucked anything with two legs for days. Though I was sure he wouldn’t do the latter, I wondered what he knew that set his blood pumping.
Getting to my feet, I headed off to Phantom’s room.
Knocking on her door, I waited as I heard the clicks of several locks. Shaking my head, I stood there waiting for her to open her fucking door. When she finally did, I groaned. “Really?”
“I’m busy. What do you want?”
“Reaper wants you.”
“What the fuck for?”
“He’s happy.”
