“I know,” I whispered, knowing it was the truth.
Chaos was a loyal soldier. He was a good brother who always cared about this club, second to his sisters. When the club learned of Chaos’ parentage, I could have culled him from the herd, but I didn’t. It wasn’t his fault his father was Hellhound. If I was him, I would have kept that a secret too. In the end, Chaos owned it and moved on. If it weren’t’ for his sisters, I honestly believed that Chaos wouldn’t even be here right now. This club was all he knew, thanks to my Pop’s. The poor kid never had a chance at any other life.
Like I said, deception was everywhere.
When Pop’s learned about Chaos and who his father was, he took it upon himself to help cultivate him into the man he was today. Which was one of the reasons I kept him close. I wanted to fully trust Chaos and I did to some point, but when it came to the life of my woman and kid…I trusted no one.
“Maybe you should talk to Valentinetti. Maybe he can help?”
“No. Giovanni’s got his own shit to deal with. He’s weeding out the bad seeds in his family. Until he has that taken care of, he will be no help to me. Besides, the only good thing about that alliance is that his fucking brother killed that mother fucker Bianchi,” I smirked, then chuckled. “The fucking lawyer killed him. You believe that. Never thought I’d see the day when a lawyer was actually good at doing something other than putting people behind bars.”
“Antonio is a good man. As solid as they come.”
“Yeah, well according to Giovanni, his family has scattered. They won’t get back together until he cleans his house. Whatever that means.”
“Where does that leave us? You have an alliance with Valentinetti. Is that still golden?”
“Not sure.”
“What about that Guardian asshole?”
“Fuck Chaos, are you trying to get me killed? There is no fucking way I can trust him. He will put a bullet in my head before Bullseye can. Fuck, if St. James knew the truth, all hell would break loose here. Talk about a fucking cluster fuck.”
“Okay, so it’s just us then. What are you going to do?”
“I don’t know.”
And that was the crux of the matter.
I honestly didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t return to the fold and keep it hidden from the club. Then there was the fact there was no fucking way I would ever do what he wanted. Not after everything that has happened. Either way, I was damned if I did and damned if I didn’t.
I was a dead man walking.
