Reaper
“FUCK!
I roared loudly, grabbing my chair, throwing it across the room as I watched it splinter into hundreds of pieces against the wall. I was screwed. This couldn’t be happening. I did everything I was supposed to. I planned for every contingency. I knew the rules. They were stated clearly and now he wanted to change them. I knew defying him was a gamble, but I refused to play along anymore. I couldn’t.
I had too much to lose.
There had to be another way. I just needed to figure it out before he came for me. Shit. This was a massive cluster fuck. How in the hell did I allow it to get so far out of hand? I was careful. I knew I was. Only one person knew what I was doing. It was better that way. No one suspected. Everything was Golden.
Now, I was going to lose it all.
“Reaper?”
Turning, I saw Chaos standing there, sticking his head through the door, looking concerned. I didn’t want to talk to anyone, but I was thankful that it was him and not Ghost. I didn’t know what I would do if it was Ghost standing there. My best friend and Vice President had a fucking uncanny way of knowing when shit stank and he had no problem calling me on it. And if I was being honest, I didn’t trust that he would understand. No one would. As it was, I was doing everything I could to give Ghost a wide berth. I couldn’t look my best friend in the eye and lie to him anymore.
“What?” I growled.
“Everything okay?”
“Do I look okay!”
“No,” Chaos said, stepping into church and looking over his shoulder as he closed the door behind him. Chaos had always been a loyal brother. From the moment he stepped foot in the clubhouse, there was something about the man that shouted trustworthily. Even when Ghost took off for those five years and no one knew where the fuck he was, Chaos stepped up and became my voice of reason. A lot of good that did back then. I was still making the same mistakes I was making today. Still, Chaos was the only one I truly trusted. “You look like you’re about to kill a mother fucker.”
Chuckling, I took a deep breath and tried to calm the raging demon inside me. The damn beast wanted to come out and play. I wasn’t ready to unleash him yet. I knew that time would come soon enough. Until then I needed to reign in my temper just a little bit longer before all hell broke loose.
And it would. It always did. I had been putting it off for too long. Ultimately the truth would come out and then my day of reckoning would arrive.
Would live through it?
Well, that was another story.
Grabbing another chair, I sat. “Did the shipment arrive?” I needed something else to concentrate on. It was bad enough to deal with the shit I couldn’t control but to make matters worse my woman was on team drive-Reaper-fucking-crazy-with-wedding-shit.
It was working.
She was driving me fucking nuts.
My woman. My beautiful Remi was currently planning the wedding of her dreams. Okay, it probably wasn’t the wedding of her dreams. She did say several times she didn’t want anything special but after everything she’d been through, I wanted her to have something wonderful she would remember.
I may not be the man of her dreams, but fuck it, I was determined to give her the best wedding I could think of. I wasn’t eager for all the fanfare but for her, I would slap a smile on my face and do what needed to be done. That’s why I even hired a fucking wedding planner. Snooty fucking bitch was robbing me blind too. Who the fuck pays twelve grand for a fucking cake? Hell, all we needed was a damn sheet cake and I could get that from the local grocery store for thirty bucks!
Fuck my life. In the end, I kept my mouth shut. It was the least I could do before the shit hit the fan. It was only a matter of time before she learned the truth about me.
What I did.
My woman and I had been through so much already. If she ever learns the real truth of what happened to me all those years ago, she will never forgive me.
Hell, I can’t even forgive myself.
It was too fucked up to even think about and yet it happened. There was no stopping it. Now that sin was about to rear its ugly head and destroy everything if I didn’t think of something fast.
“Yeah.”
“Any witnesses?”
“No,” Chaos muttered. “What’s going on Reaper? You know I handle the shipments with care. It went off like clockwork. What’s really going on?”
Instead of answering him, I asked, “The exit plan. Is it ready to go?” It was something I had been planning since all this shit started.
