“Yes,” Gunner growled.
“About five months into the war, our sister went missing. Dad suspected your club but couldn’t prove it. We looked everywhere for her. She was only seventeen when she went missing. None of us ever heard from her again, until you called the other day.” King added.
“Shit,” I said, sitting down.
“My dad. Shane Keller. His club name was Bear. He was on a club run near your territory about ten years ago. He was killed just across the border in North Carolina.” Savage stated, looking at King.
I knew what Savage was asking.
We all did.
Closing my eyes, I knew what we were all about to hear and when Jessica took Hailey from Savage, I quickly sent up a prayer that I was wrong.
“I killed him,” King admitted. “The kill order my dad gave was still in effect. It still is. He crossed into our territory, so I took my shot.”
Savage lunged at King knocking him back out of the seat he was sitting in and onto the floor. Fist were flying as each of them refused to give up. It was a fucking bloody mess. Savage had every right to demand justice for his dad’s death and King had every right to uphold his father’s standing order. No side would win this fight. It was a fucked-up time back when Shane was alive. Savage and I were barely out of high school when the club war ramped up. It was an awful time. Something I tried hard not to think about.
“Oh, for the love of fuck,” Jess shouted, marching over to the two men fighting and rolling around on the floor. The next thing I heard was a gunshot going off. Looking up I saw a hole in my ceiling and growled, “Damn-it Jessica. That’s the second hole I’m going to have to patch.”
Both men on the floor immediately stopped fighting and stared up at the angry redhead. “We don’t have time for this shit. Savage, I’m sorry your dad died but it was a long time ago. King, apologize to Savage, right now.”
“I will not!”
Jess pointed the gun in her hand at her uncle, daring him to ignore her. King narrowed his eyes and seethed, “Sorry.”
“Great,” Jess smiled. “Now can get we back to business because I’m about to get sick,” she said right before she dropped the gun, turned and threw up all over the floor.
Several of us ran to her but Savage got to her faster. Picking her up, he raced her back downstairs to where Healer was, leaving all of us standing around looking like fools.
“She’s right. You don’t have time for this.”
Turning, I spotted Gideon St. James, the Guardian standing in the doorway shaking his head.
I wished the floor would open up and swallow me whole.
I really was tired of this shit.
