“Why her?” she cried.
Fuck. That was a good question. One I didn’t have an answer for. Out of all the women in Purgatory, I had to hook up with fucking Darla. The one bitch I knew Jess hated with a passion. To make matters worse, I barely remembered anything from last night.
I knew I was at the Golden Lounge, I remembered telling Viper I wanted a whiskey. After that everything got blurry. Still there was no excuse for my actions. Whatever happened was on me. I knew I wasn’t supposed to drink. I let my anger towards Reaper override all logical thinking.
There was nothing I could say that would satisfy her curiosity.
So, I said the only thing I could.
I apologized. “I’m sorry baby. So, fucking sorry.”
Releasing her as she lightly pushed away from me, I cupped her face, wiping her tears with my thumbs. God, she was so fucking beautiful. Even with puffy red eyes and a red button nose, she was the most beautiful fucking thing I’d ever seen. When her eyes locked on mine, I felt something gut me deep. Her glassy vibrant green eyes shimmered with pain. It was a look I never wanted to see again.
I hurt her.
Me.
The one man on the planet who was supposed to love her and I caused the pain radiating back at me.
She was breaking my heart.
“Please forgive me.” I whispered.
“There’s nothing to forgive.”
“Yes, there is.”
“She drugged you, Lucas. You didn’t know what you were doing.”
“She what?”
“You had ecstasy in your system. You had a bad reaction to it.”
“I’m going to kill her.”
“I already did,” Reaper said, standing near the stairs along with three other men I’d never seen before. All three men were older but each stood strong and capable. These men exuded danger in waves.
All three men were tall, like over six feet six, each muscular with varying shades of red hair. I didn’t need to ask who these men were. Their incredible likeness to my woman was enough to tell me that they were Jess’s mom’s brothers. Her uncles. King, Gunner and Pyro.
Nobody said a damn word as I watched as all three men stared at my woman. When they moved further into the room, the biggest one of the bunch, who I assumed was King, said, “You look just like Cassie.”
“Yes,” Jess whispered, moving closer to me. Slowly getting off the bed, the sheet slipped and Reaper chuckled as Jess’s uncles grinned.
Looking down, I noticed that I was naked.
Fuck my life.
I was never going to live this down.
Could this day get any worse?
Jess quickly moved around the bed, grabbed the sheet and wrapped it around my waist. “Thanks baby,” I muttered, never moving. When Jess had the sheet secured, she wrapped her arms around my waist, holding me tight.
“He’s a little small, King.”
“He’s just a pup.”
“I agree,” King said, never taking his eyes off me.
