“Don’t mention it. Don’t forget to tell Lorenzo that the family will meet him soon. I have to settle a few pressing matters first. A move like this just can’t happen overnight, regardless of what your cousin thinks. I need a week at least.”
“I understand.”
“Are you sure you don’t want Marko and Enzo to stay with you?”
“Nico is healing and the doctor said he will be on his feet soon and with all these guys,” I said, looking over at Merc and his team. “I think I’ll be fine.”
“But why not!” Layla cried, gaining all our attention. I could tell she wasn’t happy with her brother. She wanted him to return to Chicago with her but apparently Bullseye had other plans.
“I have things I need to do here.” He stated flatly.
“I don’t care. I want you with me.”
“You have the Italian. He knows what will happen if anything happens to you.”
I looked at Gio just in time to see him roll his eyes as he walked over to Merc.
They were leaving. I knew they couldn’t stay forever but I thought they would at least stay till Lorenzo had awoken but with the state of matters as they were, Giovanni wanted to get back to Chicago fast and take care of things personally.
It wasn’t going to be easy moving an entire family to some unknown place but when Gideon personally called Giovanni and explained what was happening, Gio didn’t think twice. To save his family, he was going to do what was needed to ensure their livelihood.
As for me, I was leaving myself in a few hours just as soon as the team and the doctor got Lorenzo ready for travel. The doctor said he was stable enough but insisted on keeping him sedated for the flight. I found out that it would take us at least five hours to get to wherever we were going. I wasn’t ecstatic about the flight or going to a new place without Lorenzo awake but I didn’t have a choice.
The building we were currently in wasn’t secure enough.
The island was.
After everyone said their goodbyes, the team started packing everything in sight. Men that I didn’t even know were here arrived and immediately grabbed boxes, cases and large bags, hauling them to the basement where a large semi-truck was waiting.
Reagan and I stayed out of their way as best we could and when I saw the doctor wheel Lorenzo out of his room, I rushed over. “Is it time?”
“Yes. The ambulance has arrived.”
“I’m going with him.” I stated, taking his hand.
“No Donnie,” Declan said, walking over. “You will ride with us.”
“But.”
“It will be okay. Trey is riding with Lorenzo. Once he is secured, you can sit next to him on the plane.”
I said nothing more as I watched the doctor and Trey leave with Lorenzo.
“Ladies,” Merc motioned to the elevators.
“Oh look, Prince Charming is being polite,” Reagan smiled as she took my arm.
“Women, get in the fucking elevator.”
“And there’s Mr. Snarky. Here Donnie,” Reagan said, grabbing my wrist. I said nothing as she attached a metal bracelet.
Looking at her I questioned.
“It’s a disruptor. I didn’t have a lot of time but it will disrupt the signal from your tracker until we can get it removed. Just don’t take it off until then, okay?”
Nodding, Reagan and I walked into the elevator, followed by the rest of the team.
The island was massive. With over two thousand square miles, the island had everything anyone could want to survive. Beautiful fruit trees, plenty of vegetation, three waterfalls and soil that could grow practically anything. The small airport that we landed at was fully equipped. It had a small traffic tower and five hangers that housed different planes, from the large C-17 we just flew in to a small twin-engine plane. There was also a med-evac helicopter and a Blackhawk fully loaded with weapons. The view from the airport was stunning, with the beautiful backdrop of a small mountain and rolling hills. Waiting on the tarmac were four jeeps along with an ambulance.
