Mine to protect.
Colin’s little hand touched my face, and after a few seconds, he lowered his head to my shoulder and snuggled closer to me. My heart broke in that instant. I would never know how I ever deserved a child like this, but I would spend the rest of my life thanking God he was mine.
Before I knew it, Colin was asleep in my arms, and I found myself overcome with so much emotion that I had to let it all out. So, I sang to him.
Wise men say,
Only fools rush in,
But I can’t help,
Falling in love with you.
Shall I stay,
Would it be a sin,
If I can’t help,
Falling in love with you.
Like a river flows, surely to the sea,
Darling, so it goes,
Somethings are meant to be.
Take my hand,
Take my whole life too.
For I can’t help…falling in love with you.

The clubhouse was empty as I stumbled down the stairs, heading for the bar. I didn’t know where everyone was, nor did I give a shit. I was glad they were gone. That meant I didn’t have to see the pity in their eyes or hear their annoying words of sympathy.
Fuck all of them.
I didn’t need them.
What I did need was another bottle of whiskey.
Reaching over the top of the bar, I grabbed a bottle and just twisted off the cap when she sat down next to me.
Sighing, I looked over at her and sneered.
“Don’t you have anything better to do than babysit me?”
“Nope.” She smiled.
“Go away.”
“Can’t do that.”
“Why not?”
