Player
The SUV rolled to a stop just as the sun broke the horizon. Jumping from the vehicle, I ran inside the clubhouse, past several of my brothers, and up the stairs to the second room on the right.
Standing before the closed door, my heartbeat furiously inside my chest.
She was in there.
In my room.
In my bed.
Waiting for me.
All I had to do was open the door and step in.
Simple really. Yet, I couldn’t bring myself to turn the knob.
Leaning my head against the door, I tried to quell the raging emotions I was feeling. Every moment, every decision brought me to this place. So many things I should have done differently, but none of that mattered now.
She was just beyond the door.
“Standing there isn’t going to make it easier, Player,” Reaper said, leaning against the hall wall. “Whatever you are feeling right now, get rid of it. She doesn’t need to see you lose control. She needs you to be strong and not lose your shit. I waited till we got home to tell you this because I knew if I told you before, you would have gone off the deep end.”
“What?”
“There is more to Catarina’s story. We all agreed that she should be the one to tell you, but you better hear me on this Player. If you snap like you did back in Vegas, I will have your ass in the shed fast. That girl has gone through hell, and I won’t have you taking your anger out on her. Get me?”
Nodding, I said, “I got you, Reaper.” As he turned to leave, I looked back at the door. I placed my hand on the knob, only to ask, “What if she doesn’t want me?”
Reaper stopped, turned, and grinned, “That’s not possible, brother.”
As he disappeared down the stairs, I gathered what courage I could find and turned the knob.
As I walked in, the room was dark, carefully shutting the door behind me. My eyes scanned the room, and when they fell on my bed, my heart burst in my chest.
She was here.
I wasn’t dreaming this time.
She was sleeping in my bed.
Moving closer to my bed, I just stared at her. She looked just like she did the last time I saw her. Her dark hair fanned across my pillows. Her chest softly rose as she hugged one of my pillows to her. I smiled when I saw that she was wearing one of my shirts.
I liked her in my clothes.
Sitting on the bed, I tried not to bother her, but I couldn’t stop myself from touching her. It was as I remembered. Her skin, soft as silk. Moving my hand towards her face, I lightly brushed her hair from her face, needing to see her clearly.
She stirred, and before I could remove my hand, I found myself staring into her deep green eyes. Tears lightly fell down my face as I watched her smile at me. And just like that, everything was right in my world again.
“Reggie.”
“Cat.”
The next thing I knew, she was in my arms, as I hugged her tightly to me.God, whatever I did to deserve this moment, I would be forever grateful. Thank you.
Holding her felt like heaven. After so long, she was in my arms again, where she belonged. All the pain of the past faded away, leaving only us together in this moment.
Holding her head in my hands, I rained down kisses all over her face as she whispered, “mia Amore,” over and over again, and when my lips collided with hers, there were no words to describe what I felt.
