Blinking back tears, I didn’t know I was shedding Giovanni removed his coat and quickly covered me as we both heard Salvatore and Massacre running towards us.
“Breathemia Amore. It’s over,” he carefully said as I just stared at him in shock. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I feared if I did, he would disappear, and I couldn’t take it if he did.
“Gio, we need to go,” Sal said, running into the room. “The tanker is rigged to blow.”
“Where is Illyria?”
“I saw Maxim running for his vehicle, and he got her out safely,” Massacre stated as he walked over and whistled. “Holy shit. That’s Jekyll. You killed him too?”
“No,” Giovanni said, removing the ropes that tied me to the chair.
“Who killed him then?” Massacre asked.
“I am going to assume it was Bullseye since he called me personally and threatened my life if I didn’t get his sister to safety,” Gio said, which had me jerking. He sighed and added, “Your brother is…let’s just say he isn’t happy with me right now, and I’d really like to get you to safety before this tanker blows. Can you walk?”
“I don’t know,” I whispered as I looked at the window with a small hole in it. I don’t know why but I smiled and nodded, knowing Dylan was out there watching everything.
He saved me.
Again.
When I needed him most, he was there.
Just like he’d always been.
Giovanni gathered me in his arms as we quickly left the room, Sal and Massacre behind us.

Giovanni
We had just pulled away from the docks when the loud explosion rocked the entire area. Smoke billowed up high into the sky as people started running from all directions. Keeping her safe in my arms, Layla didn’t even move as she lay curled against me.
When I walked into that room and saw her beautiful face, a rage I had never felt before burst forward from deep within me. If I could kill that bastard again, I would, gladly.
She hadn’t said anything to me yet. I wanted so much to ask what happened but knew it wasn’t the time. Right now, I needed to get her to the nearest hospital. She needed a doctor, and I would make sure she would have the best.
“Gio, the cops are everywhere. Where too?” Sal asked as he turned quickly down a side road speeding up as he pushed the SUV to its limits.
“Hospital.”
“Which one?” Massacre asked.
“I don’t care!” I shouted at them. “Just get me to a hospital!”
Silence soon reigned as I continued to hold Layla close.
Speeding down the side streets and weaving in and out of traffic, it didn’t take Salvatore long to find the nearest hospital. Slamming on the breaks as he came to a stop in the emergency room entrance, Massacre and Salvatore both jumped from the vehicle. Sal wasted no time opening my door, so I could slide out with Layla in my arms while Massacre ran inside to get a doctor. I had just taken two steps when he reappeared with a doctor and several nurses. Placing her on the gurney they brought, I quickly followed them until I was systematically stopped.
“I’m sorry, sir, you will have to wait out here.”
“She is my fiancé!”
“I understand that, but we need the room to do our jobs.”
“I won’t get in the way, I promise.”
“Gio, come on, man,” Dwayne whispered. “Let the doctors do their job. She’s safe here.”
