Twenty-Two
Bullseye
Leaving Kitty in the bedroom, I got dressed and headed back into the living room, where I found Reaper, Ghost, and the rest of my brothers all gathered around Phantom and her computer. I was happy to see that she was safe and with Kitty. I really didn’t have an opinion on women in the club one way or the other. She was my sister, and that was that. I just didn’t want to see her get hurt.
Making my way over to the table, I grinned when Savage flipped me the bird. “You need to soundproof this place, asshole.”
Grinning, I took a seat and said. “I like it the way it is.”
“I’m going to need therapy.”
“We all will after that,” Chaos muttered as several brothers laughed. Ignoring the jabs, I looked at Reaper, who just shook his head and grinned at me.
“So, Bullseye, you want to tell me why we are back in Louisiana? Because if my memory serves, I said I never wanted to step foot in this state again.” Reaper asked, leaning back in his chair, arms crossed over his massive chest. And from the look he was giving me, he wasn’t in the mood for jokes.
Taking the bull by the horns, I cleared my voice and replied, “About twenty miles to the north of this farm is a compound owned by your mother.”
When the words left my mouth, I knew it would raise everyone’s hackles, and it did. When brothers started shouting and yelling over everyone, Reaper had to whistle loudly to calm everyone down. When the room settled, he looked at me and said, “Continue.”
“When you sent Chaos and I to scout the area last year when Remi was here, I came across the compound by accident. At first, I didn’t know who it belonged to, but what I saw there, well, that’s altogether a different reason for being here.”
“Uh-huh.”
“The compound is not what you would think. It looks like any other plantation around these parts from the outside, and with the small outbuildings, it actually looks like a working plantation. But it’s not. When I scouted the area, I saw several large trucks move in and out of the property. At first, I thought they were moving men, women, and children, but they weren’t. They were moving weapons.
“The property to the north of us is used by the Collector, but he doesn’t own it. When I searched for the deed and found your mother, Caroline Doherty as the owner. You will like this part because Jeffery Denton uses it as his home base and his connections to Homeland Security to import and export weapons to Diablo’s clients worldwide. With the shipping ports close by, they have been moving the weapons in and out of the country without being seen.”
“Slimy fucker,” Ghost muttered. I knew why Ghost hated the man, and if it wasn’t for Malachi escaping and letting Denton go free too, the limp bastard would be ash by now. Instead, he was walking around breathing fresh air. It was time for payback.
“Why didn’t you bring this to me sooner?”
“Because I asked him not to.”
Turning, I saw Kitty leaning against the door jam, waiting for someone to yell at her. She knew she was in trouble. She’d left a bombshell at the club’s feet. Then to make matters worse, she took off without telling anyone anything else, leaving us to figure it all out on our own. We still hadn’t managed to fill in all the blanks.
In time we would.
Getting to my feet, I walked over to her. Taking her hand in mine, I tried to give her all the encouragement I could, knowing that the next few hours would be grueling for her. The fact of the matter was, Kitty was the one with all the answers. She had what we needed to end this, and we were all tired of playing catch-up. It was time to take control of the narrative.
Kitty was stronger than anyone gave her credit for. She just needed to learn to trust more.
Reaper said nothing as Kitty sat at the table.
All the brothers, including Reaper, just stared at her.
Sitting next to her, I listened as she began.
“For years, I’ve been compiling any information I could get regarding Caroline Doherty. I knew I would need as much ammunition as I could get to bring her down. When Bullseye told me of this place, I looked into it, and he was right. Caroline bought the plantation several years ago and uses it to smuggle drugs, weapons, and people in and out of the ports. When I entered this game with her, I knew the only way to bring her down was to hit her where it hurt the most.”
“Her pocketbook,” Ghost said, and Kitty nodded.
“Take away her money, and she’s basically a bitch with a score to settle.”
“Kitty’s right,” Phantom spoke up as she typed on her computer. “The land is owned by Caroline Doherty, but that isn’t the only piece of property she owns around here. She also owns two warehouses near the coast.”
“Where did she get the money for this shit?” Reaper asked.
“From the club,” Kitty replied softly.
