“Has Kitty given you a description of the man who raped her?”

“She told Player. He has it. He’s been running facial recognition, trying to find the bastard.”

“What about Bullseye?”

“He thinks until Layla is found, Kitty is still in danger.”

“So, they are staying married?”

“Yeah,” Savage grumbled.

“What?”

“I don’t know. I just feel useless. I should have been there for my sister. I should have protected her better, ya know. Instead, I thought she’d be safe at school. You know she had to drop out because of the kid. She doesn’t know if she’s gonna go back. It’s just a shame. Kitty is smart, and she would have been a damn fine nurse.”

“She can go back. We will all help. Hell, I’ll even pay for it.”

“She knows. I told her that.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

“She’s got it in her head that this fucker is going to come back and take the kid. I told her she was being silly, that nothing would get to her or that kid. But she doesn’t believe me.”

“Did you move her into your house on the property?”

“No, Bullseye has her at his place. Said it was more conducive for a family. That and it’s hardwired with all kinds of surveillance shit and a panic room. That man is crazy, Reaper. Not sure I want my sister around him.”

I laughed. “Bullseye knows what he’s doing. Just let him help.”

“Yeah.”

The door to the room opened, and in walked Healer with Remi’s doctor and Savage’s nurse, Jessica, who scowled when she saw him.

Both men were dressed in scrubs and white coats. It was odd seeing Healer in anything but his Golden Skulls cut, but he was a doctor. I knew he wore medical gear when working at the hospital. It was just a shock seeing him. He looked so different, like an honest to real god doctor.

“Reaper, I’ve scheduled the med-flight. It arrives in two hours and will fly Remi to Purgatory Memorial Hospital where I will continue her care.” Healer began, then looked at Savage. “Brother, can we have the room.”

Savage nodded, got to his feet, walked over to nurse Jessica, leaned down, and whispered something in her ear. The woman blushed, then smarted and turned on him, slapping him across the face.

Savage grinned and whistled, leaving the room.

Healer shook his head and continued. “Reaper, Doctor Delamont, and I ran a few more tests on Remi to find out why she isn’t waking up. Neurologically she is fine. There are no brain bleeds, swelling, nothing. When that came back all clear, we started looking in other areas.”

“Just tell me, Healer,” I said, reaching for her hand.

“She’s pregnant.”

“Excuse me.”

“I ran the test myself three times. Remi is pregnant. I want to get a Gynecologist in here to tell us how far along she is…”

Healer continued to talk, but I couldn’t hear him. My demon roared deep within me, wanting out. Looking at the woman lying on the bed, not moving, I feared for her. What would this do to her? Would she be able to survive it? What would she want to do? Would she keep it, abort it? I had no clue. I needed her to wake, to tell me what to do. Because all I wanted to do was rip the thing from her body. To protect her from that thing, a reminder of what she’d endured.

I couldn’t stand the thought of something vile and tainted growing deep within her. My demon wanted justice, to protect what was his. I was just about to get to my feet when her soft fingers tightened around mine. Looking at her hand, I tried to make sense of what was happening. My mind swirled in a black vortex of rage and retribution, yet that one squeeze, that simple flex of her fingers, brought me reeling back to the now. Getting to my feet, I kept hold of her hand as I leaned over her. “Remi,” I whispered. “Come back to me, baby. I need you to tell me what to do.”

Even when Healer and the other doctor listened to her heart, she never responded, checking her eyes for any movement. When they found nothing, they left me alone in the room with her and that thing.

“Baby, I need you to wake up now. I can’t make this decision by myself. I mean it, Remi. Tell me what to do.”
