Jade was a victim of her father's actions, and I felt bad for ever thinking she was behind it all. The sound of rain drew my attention, and it was only then that I remembered that there was supposed to be really bad weather tonight.
"Oh shoot, I should get going," Jade said as she stood up.
"It's supposed to get worse than this," I replied. "I don't think it's safe to be out now."
"I left Robin-"
"He's with Tammie," I said. "And she better stay put and not risk going out in this rain."
As if on command, the sound of the rain became heavier. There was no way I was letting Jade out of my sight, and it wasn't up for negotiation.
"Call her and let her know," I said. "I'll take you back in the morning."
Jade hesitated for some seconds before taking out her phone. I left her to her phone call as I went to the other bedroom to get it ready for her. A part of me was protesting the decision, but it was the right thing to do. For the first time, I was thinking with my head and not my body when it came to Jade. I found her seated when I returned, and she looked nervous as hell.
"Relax, I don't bite."
I expected a laugh or smile, but whatever was brewing inside her was far too heavy for a joke.
"Your room is ready for you if you would rather go to bed now. Or can I get you something to eat first?"
She visibly relaxed at the mention of the other room, and I felt a twinge of disappointment.
"No, thank you. I'm pretty beat, so I'll go on and sleep."
I nodded. "I'd offer you some pajamas, but I see you brought your own to the slumber party."
She looked down at her pajama bottoms and chuckled. "You can't accuse me of not being prepared."
"No, ma'am," I replied with a smile. "I couldn't have helped anyway. I sleep naked."
She blushed but burst into laughter. Seeing Jade smiling was always a sight to behold, but hearing her laugh was even better. I regretted every step I took to the second bedroom, and as we said goodnight, I regretted not sealing it with a kiss.
I got into my bed and felt too on edge to work, so I tried to get some sleep instead. It was hard to do that when my body was humming with excitement at having Jade so close, but I finally managed to dose off. Jade plagued my dreams, and when I finally woke up a couple of hours later, it was with a raging hard-on.
I groanedas I got out of bed, knowing that I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep easily. I went to the mini kitchen and took out a bowl and some cereal. My father used to do it when I was younger, and the habit has stuck with me ever since. It had become our thing whenever I had a nightmare or couldn't sleep. He would make cereal, and we'd talk about the future. I didn't know then that he wouldn't be part of my future, but somehow this little tradition of ours made him live on.
"Couldn't sleep?"
Jade's voice startled me,and I turned around to find her looking all kinds of adorable as she looked at me. Her hair was all over the place, and I wanted nothing more than to run my hand through it.
I raised my bowl. "Want some?"
She noddedand came to take a seat on the stool opposite me. I quickly made her a bowl, and she laughed when I set it in front of her.
"You're kidding."
I sat downand raised a brow, waiting for her to share the joke.
"Robin won't eatanything else except this," she said with a large smile.
I would never gettired of seeing that smile, I realized. Jade was a beautiful woman, but it was like a whole new dimension of beauty when she smiled.
"Well yeah, they make the milk –"
"Turn chocolate,"she finished the sentence with me, making me chuckle.
"He's got good taste,"I said smugly.
