His face went red. “I just.” He cleared his throat after his voice cracked. “At some point, in the distant future, we’ll all have caught up.”
He was saying something without using the right words, and my mind was too messy to figure it out. “Just say it, Gavin.”
He blew out a breath. “Once you’ve slept with all of us, it won’t really matter, right? It’s not like we’ll be counting each time to make sure we’re all even. At some point, things will balance out, and it won’t matter.”
“You’re right.” I almost laughed at how bright his face was. “I guess that’s a good way to think of it.”
“There’s no rushing to that point though, Ave. Just continue to take things at your own pace.”
“And yours.” I pointed out. He was the one who stopped us last night, and I was glad for it.
“Yeah.” He smiled, his color returning to normal, and kissed my forehead. “Let’s head in.”
The rest of the guys were in Luca’s kitchen surrounding a buffet of leftovers.
“My parents had a party over the weekend,” Luca explained while sliding plates toward us.
“A fun one.” Sky grinned with a mouth full of pizza.
“Yeah. None of the usual gross stuff.” Vince held up a mozzarella stick with a wide grin.
Noah shook his head and dipped a wing into ranch dressing.
“So, should I go first?” Gavin asked, looking at Luca, who nodded. “Okay, so I’ve established a pretty solid routine for her movements and found two suspicious locations. She’s visited one four times in the three weeks I’ve isolated and the other three times. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but Juliet is almost too predictable. If I didn’t know better, and I wasn’t able to see her messages, I’d think she knew she was being monitored.”
“Maybe she does, but it’s by someone else,” Vince offered.
Gavin nodded. “That’s entirely possible.”
“What are the locations?” Noah asked.
“That’s the problem. Both of them are high-rise buildings downtown. I’ve searched the addresses trying to narrow down who or what it is, but there are too many options. We need to physically go and check.”
No one argued, so he continued. “I think we should go this weekend. She’s visited one of the addresses the past three Saturdays, so there’s a strong chance she will again.”
“I might be with my dad,” I said.
“That’s fine. We can go,” Sky said.
I shot him a smile in thanks.
“What are the exact addresses?” Noah asked, glancing at Luca.
Gavin narrowed his eyes while he pulled out his phone and checked. He read off the two locations downtown, and Noah slumped. “We know where those are.”
Vince rubbed the back of his neck and Luca stared at the ground.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“We’ve been tailing her,” Vince admitted.
“Was that why you looked so tired this morning?” I should have realized it sooner.
“Yeah,” he admitted, and I looked to Luca and Noah.
“You guys too?”
“Yeah,” they answered together.
