She obeys, taking them on the couch with her to discuss the matter. Her voice is calm, but that doesn’t stop the boys from making worried sounds.
This is all my fault.
A knock sounds on the door right before it opens.
Gage, Cole, and Alistair come into the room.
Alistair’s face brightens when he sees Suki. I’d like to knock his ass out, but I’m well aware that this is all my doing.
Gage chuckles. “I can’t wait to see the look on Blake’s face.”
I look over at Suki with admiration. “She’s feisty.”
“And you’re sure you’re not coming with?” Cole asks.
“I’ll check in again soon. Give me a while, if ya can.”
Cole nods. “Understood. Christine’s ready to inspect and in-process them since you weren’t able to. We’ve asked the Korean scientist to assist with communication until we can school her up.”
“That’ll help a lot.”
Suki approaches, Hyun seated on her hip, Duri’s hand in hers.
The men introduce themselves, but Suki scowls, walking past them into the halls.
Duri hesitates, his eyes shifting to me suspiciously.
“You’re coming with us, right?” he says in perfect English.
English so good, he couldn’t have picked it up from cartoons.
And boy do I feel like an idiot.
I look around, but none of the others seem to care, as they’re all fixated on Suki. Except Gage, who’s grumbling because he wants to get back to Remi.
“Ah, I can’t, bud.”
His face falls. “Figures.”
I want to tell him how much I care for them, but nothing good comes from getting too attached.
Cole sticks behind as Alistair and Gage guide Suki and the boys to the rooftop, where a helicopter awaits.
“You did good. Real good,” he assures me.
“I hope so.”
“She’ll be well taken care of.”
“She better be, because if she’s not, there’ll be hell to pay.”

SUKI
Leaving with Trent’s people, I do not feel fear. Only sadness.
In my head, I had imagined so many different lives I could live with him. I’d wondered what it would be like to raise a family with him, cozy in the places we made for ourselves.
