FANG 2
“Where the hell did Sam get to?” King asks as I step out of the club.
“How the fuck should I know? I’m not her keeper,” I snap as I make my way towards the trees where Dixon is waiting for me. We have started building the other cabin, and even though all the other guys have helped at one time or another, Dixon and I are the ones that have kept at it.
“If you see her, tell her I’m looking for her,” King calls as I continue walking. Ever since we brought Sam back from her kidnapping, she has been off. We understand that what happened messed with her head, that’s why we’ve given her time and have catered to the change in her, but I believe tough love might be just what she needs to snap out of her head.
Walking into the woods, I Make my way towards the area where we decided to build the lodge. I can hear voices long before I see Dixon and Hawk placing a log up for one of the walls.
“About time, thought you had forgotten,” Dixon calls out to me as he starts hammering.
I grunt as I head towards the tree trunks that still need cutting. Picking up the axe, I move into place. This is just what I need today, to get rid of this foul mood I’m in. My wolf is raging, and I agree with him.
It has been a tempest of emotions ever since last week when the cops found another woman that had been murdered. We thought that the serial killer that was in the area killing all the women had moved on because there hadn’t been a killing in over eight months, but then it happened again. We’re all furious. The woman who was killed was one of ours. Gabby had just joined us about two months ago. The thought of what that fucker did to Gabby has my blood roaring in rage.
“What the fuck? You’re supposed to chop the logs, don’t disintegrate them,” Hawk calls out as he approaches me. Looking down at the log I’ve just chopped, I realize that it has practically exploded under my axe.
“Have you seen Sam; King is looking for her?” I ask, ignoring his comment.
“Yeah, I saw her go into the other cabin earlier.” Hawk has always been closer to Sam than any of the others. When she was first brought back home from her ordeal with the Hades MC, he was the one to help her through the turmoil.
“Why the hell is she always in there?” I mutter.
“You know she doesn’t like being around people. She says that being alone in the cabin makes her feel at peace,” Hawk replies as he picks up another log and starts to carry it across to Dixon. Lifting the axe, I once again bring it down too hard, which has the blade shattering.
“Fuck,” I mutter. Sometimes I forget my own strength. Being a shifter means that our strength is superior to humans, which has us on our guard every time we are around people. Shit, I’m in no mood to do any justice here today. I want to help, but unless I calm the fuck down, I won’t be able to cage this beast inside of me. I woke up in a rage, wanting to roar out in anger. Since the day we were visited by the inspector, a man who had a suspicious look on his face as he held a photo of Gabby, one of our blossoms, for us to examine; the sick fucker has decided to target us. Placing us under the microscope of the police. I hate feeling like I’m in a fishbowl, but mostly I hate the fact that I can’t find who is killing the women.
I feel powerless every time I see one of the brothers’ women looking scared. I’m supposed to be the fucking Enforcer, and not being able to keep the members of the club safe has done my head in.
Looking over at Dixon and Hawk placing the new log in place, I grunt as I pull my T-shirt off, readying myself to go for a run. I need to get rid of some of this excess energy and this constant feeling of inadequacy.
“Where the fuck are you going?” Dixon asks as I’m about to change into my wolf.
“For a run, I won’t be long,” I reply before I change, feeling my bones snapping as they adjust to my wolf form. The familiar pain of the change rushes through my body, blinding me for a couple of seconds before my vision sharpens, my sense of smell refines, and my hearing improves. Everything happens just before I jump forward and dash away in a run. It’s either try to run this anger and frustration out of my system or snapping and losing my shit.
I don’t know how long I run through the forest before I stop in exhaustion. Lifting my head, I take in a deep breath, smelling the wet earth under my paws, the pine trees that surround me, and… a pungent smell of bleach that suddenly overwhelms me.
What the fuck?
I swear If I find another dead woman in our territory, I will burn down this whole fucking place. The smell takes me to our cabin. Changing back into my human form, I grunt as the pain blasts through me before it settles into a throbbing ache until it finally dissipates.
Walking up to the door of the cabin, I throw open the door. I should be more cautious, but I’m fucking tired today. Tired of everything that has been happening and the way I don’t have a hold on protecting anyone.
The bleach smell is stronger inside the cabin. Walking in, I stop in surprise when I see Sam rushing out of the bathroom, naked as the day she was born. There is a look of horror on her face when she looks at me.
“What are you doing, Sam?”
Her eyes run over my naked body, a normal occurrence when changing back into my human form.
Her eyes flicker with fear when she glances behind her and then back at me. I start making my way towards the bathroom, stopping when I’m close to Sam. I grunt when my senses get overwhelmed by the pungent bleach smell wafting off her.
Looking at her closely, I frown when I see how red and irritated her skin looks. Glancing into the bathroom, I scowl. “What the hell were you doing, Sam?”
“I… I was bathing,” she stammers, but there are tears in her eyes.
“Bathing?” I walk into the bathroom to see two empty drums of bleach on the floor. The bleach is inside the bathtub.
Fuck! Was she bathing in the bleach?
