“I will get you some. I know how much you love your chocolate.” Taffy stands, making her way towards the kitchen. To be honest, my stomach is still in a knot, but I won’t disappoint both of them by not having any.
“Did you watch a movie?” I ask Lee Ann while Taffy is busy in the kitchen.
“No, we just talked, but it was nice.”
It looks like it helped because she seems more at ease. Lately she would curl herself on the couch and hardly talk, but today she’s sitting properly, and she’s actually having a conversation with me.
“Here you go.” Taking the bowl from Taffy, I smile when I see the chocolate soufflé. It is true, I’m a chocoholic. Give me chocolate and I will be happy.
Taking a spoonful of soufflé into my mouth, I sigh in pleasure. Lee Ann was right; the dessert is really good. “This is really decadent, thank you.”
“You were late getting home today,” Taffy says as she pats Lee Ann’s hand, “but it was nice, wasn’t it? I think we needed to talk.”
“Yes, but now I’m going to bed.” Lee Ann stands. “Thank you for everything, Taffy.” With those parting words, she moves towards her room.
“Goodnight,” I call after her. I’m dying to know what happened tonight, because I can see there is a change in my sister. After a few minutes of quiet, I raise my hand, waving Taffy over to come and sit next to me. “So?” I whisper.
Taffy looks towards where Lee Ann disappeared. “We talked the entire evening about her, I think it really helped. She promised to try to get out of this funk that she’s in. Starting tomorrow, I’m coming to pick her up and we’re going out for coffee.” For a second there is a quick feeling of resentment that my sister opened up to Taffy instead of me, but that is quickly dispersed when I realize that Taffy got through to Lee Ann, and that is the most important thing.
“Thank you for being here tonight.” I take another bite of my dessert, rolling my eyes exaggeratedly for Taffy’s benefit.
“What else could I possibly be doing?” I laugh at her comment as Taffy is always busy. As the Marketing Director for an engineering company, she always has functions at work and appearances that she needs to make.
“You are a great friend, Taffy.”
“I know, don’t forget it,” Taffy teases with a grin. “So, what have you been up to? You seem skittish today.” Glancing towards Lee Ann’s room to make sure that she’s still in there, I sigh before turning towards Taffy.
“I had this horrible idea of getting revenge for Lee Ann, so I went to the concert today, but when the time came, I couldn’t do it.”
Taffy is looking at me with a shocked expression on her face. “You? Revenge?” she asks.
“Yes, I know. It was stupid. But now I know.” I shrug as I lean over the couch to place the bowl on the little side table by the lamp.
“So, tell me all about it.”
I reveal to her that I entered the competition and that a couple of weeks ago they phoned to say that I had won. I explain about how I took Denise and then what happened when I met Blue and how I just couldn’t carry on with my plans. I see Taffy’s frown as I continue talking, she doesn’t interrupt until I finish.
“Thank goodness you didn’t go ahead with your plans. You really need to talk to your sister.”
Now it’s my turn to frown. “What do you mean?”
“I mean that you are wrong.”
I gasp at Taffy’s words.What am I wrong about?
“Not about what happened to her, that you are right about, but you got your wires crossed because the guy who got your sister pregnant, was not Blue Strada.”
“What?” I snap louder than I expected. I quickly look towards Lee Ann’s room to make sure that her light doesn’t come on under her door. “What do you mean? She told me it was the guy from the band, and we all know that Blue Stradaisthe band,” I whisper agitatedly.
Have I been thinking that Blue was the asshole all along and in reality, it wasn’t even him?No, I’m sure Taffy must be wrong.
“Blue Strada is not the only one who belongs to the band.” I can feel my heart racing when I think of how unfriendly I was, and he wasn’t even to blame. Also, the man can kiss like a God and all I did was run away. You stupid, stupid woman.
“If it wasn’t Blue, then who was it?” Taffy shrugs as she sits up
“It was a guy called Jim.” I frown. There is no one called Jim in the… oh, oh no, how could I not know, that man is an asshole, I saw that from the moment he walked in earlier this evening. How could Lee Ann not realize that Blue’s agent was not a good guy?
“I met him today,” I reply.
