“Shut up,” he mutters and turns off his engine. I step back as he climbs out of his car. The smell of leather and his clean cologne fills the air.

“How do you know where I live?” I ask.

“I run a tech company, Cori.” He puffs up his chest, but something doesn’t seem right. “And I asked Lina at the diner.” His shoulders rise like he’s trying to shake off an invisible dusting of snow. I’m glad to see this strange habit of his remains.

“There we go.” I hoist my purse, heavy with three new hardbacks, over my shoulder. “But why are you here?”

His hazel eyes meet mine, and for a moment my heart stops. It’s like no time has passed. We’re in my parents’ living room, playing a round of Uno, sneaking beers from the fridge, tiptoeing into my room so that we don’t wake my brother.

“I don’t know,” he says. That’s not the answer I was expecting, but I’ll take it. I haven't seen the man I thought would end up my husband in years, and suddenly I’ve seen him twice in one day. I suddenly don’t know what to do with my hands. “Are you going to invite me in?”

“That depends.”

“On what?”

“On if you’re a vampire, duh.”

“I’m not.” He holds his hands up where I can see them.

I can’t stop smiling. “Well, then I guess you’re invited.” Tyson smiles back, and as I lead him inside I silently wonder if it’s me who’ll be doing the bloodsucking work.
